The removal of omega and coming of advent really was like a renewal, who knows how popular HoloEN would be if they had properly taken advantage of the latter half of the boom and not given Niji the chance to grow at all. The current monopoly is not Hololive's achievement, it is purely luck that their competition is so incompetent, unstable or late to the game.
Similar issue with the high-end console market right now. Sony's PS5 console sales are a bit behind the PS4's historic rate and that's with the new Xbox flopping incredibly hard and barely breaking 25 million sales. Sony is incredibly lucky that Microsoft has been fucking up harder than them.

Well, seeing how many corpos flop each year it really does seem like vtubing is an extremely hard industry to figure out and grow in, while Holo is lucky that does not mean they aren't also really fucking stubborn and hardy. Going from what was essentially a kizuna AI clone company to copying Nijisanji's breakout success to then taking a big risk and basically becoming the poster child for vtubing in the west.
Booth assets are dirt cheap, even moreso with the yen in the dumpster. Most costumes will be in the single digit dollars. Maybe a fully rigged body will hit $20 but that would probably be the limit.
