Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the two nukes essentially CREATE anime?
It was a budding industry before the bombs dropped.

and from there you can trace Walt Disney himself to the reason anime became an industry both ways.

Disney movies among other animated films were super popular Disney saw some Japanese anime saw the talent going to waste and essentially pushed for japenese media to be exported.

This is a massive simplification but it will do the rest of it is people like Osamu Tezuka for making it popular in Japan and Tatsuo Yoshida overseas. (not just them to be clear)

Then Pokemon happened which paved the way for Naruto and the Shonen demand. yes im skipping a shit ton of history.

For your Edification, sir.

Ignore the geek media focus. This is way more in depth than the thumbnail would lead one to believe.

Seen some of this guy's stuff before, I like him.

I mostly agree what he has here - basically all of it I already know - and only disagree in that I'm the more pedantic type and would argue that Nazism and Franco Spain weren't fascist... which he also agrees, but he admits to conceding to modern lexicon. I, however, won't. Nerd On!

Good video, anyway, and definitely recommended to anyone who wants a relatively quick rundown on how Fascism and Nazism are both similar and different from Communism.

Let me just say, don't ever mess with baldy's editor.

Since Klaus is making the rounds again and hes back to saying stupid shit, im going to repost this (I posted the original back on Discord, added extra flare to it this time around) and I think its very important and gives context as to who he is or why he says the stupid shit he does. I watched Occo and Nyara's "talk" which im sure most here didn't but this is something that stood out to me.

Incorrect! He What he said was that a looser definition of fascism could be made that would encompass Franco’s Spain but he wasn’t making it.

I don't see how that's different than what I said? The point he was making here was a "generic" definition of fascism, using the term loosely, could encompass more and more, including Franco's Spain. He didn't agree with this, but acknowledged it was part of the modern lexicon.

I don't disagree with anything he said in the video, just that I'm too much of a prick to concede on the modern view and instead am more literal (only Italy was truly Fascist).

Edit: I am a dumbass. That's what I get for not focusing on the video and just listening to it at work. Sorry for the misinfo and thank you @Last Of The Mohicans for that clarification.
<Kirsche, Quoting Chat> Also, there's no way that they weren't unaware of [Kirsche's politics] already, yet they believed Nobodies anyway

Pretty sure Kirsche is talking about the gamedevs with that bit, not gamersupps.
I will now commit sudoku because I brought shame to this forum.
:gunpeko:

I was listening to Kirsche's edited video about her recent drama and came upon this tidbit in the video:
Timestamp is at 41:12

Kirsche said that when Gamersupps approached her to be a partner, they already know her politics. She also said that a partner of Gamersupps left because of her joining. Anyone knows who it is? The timeline is that this Gamersupps partner left at the time Kirsche became a Gamersupps sponsor. Whoever could that be?
:ameliaThink::ameliaThink::ameliaThink:

Also, this explains why Gamersupps didn't drop her amid the controversy. I mean, if I have an employee that can net me a fuckton of sales then fat chance I'll drop that person if they're just being cancelled by the deranged twitter mobs.

The idea that nuking Japan caused anime is kinda true, or as true as a catchy one-line meme synopsis of history will ever be. History is more complicated than that, as CalciumAnimal points out quite well. Astro Boy (1963) is seen as the father of modern anime - it has visual cues similar to modern anime, its popularity and success inspired a lot of later anime productions, the technology and processes used for Astro Boy were relevant for a lot of future productions too. There were animated productions from Japan before Astro Boy, and before WWII, but these are historical curios that didn't see a wider audience or influence wider Japanese culture. Astro Boy's widespread appeal and success led to the birth of the anime industry, and that was partly due to the recent history of Japan, including what happened during WWII.

I agree that Disney had a huge influence on what we consider to be modern anime, but it also bears noting that there were other western cartoons that became big in pre-WW2 Japan! For example, Betty Boop was so popular with Japanese audiences that Fleischer Studios made a cartoon that featured her visiting Japan.

It's cute, and since it's pre WWII, there's no bucktooth Japanese, and the lyrics actually are in Japanese, not "ching chong".

Fun fact: Since this cartoon was made specifically for a Japanese audience, the animators consulted nearby Japanese exchange students to make sure it was respectful to their culture.
