how in the hell does a battle pass in a singleplayer even work?
1) Make a game
2) Take armor sets and cosmetics out of the game
3) Offer them in a battlepass as extra content

Unfortunately they kinda shit the bed at step 1.

Do they just tie the shitty in-game exp system to it? i was under the impression battle passes work like a charm in MP shit because it almost always has a simple unlock EXP system since Cod4 made it extremely popular (i know previous games had it but still)

No, it's even worse than that. They actually put out two battlepasses (Legacy is tied to Naoe and Awakening is tied to Yasuke) and to level up through the battle passes, you have to complete weekly objectives. These weekly missions range from "kill X samurai" to "farm X". So you might just naturally complete those weekly objectives as you just play the game but it is a WEEKLY objective, so they want you to keep coming back and playing for a singleplayer game that can be finished in a week. Who the fuck is going to keep playing a single Assassin's Creed game for several months just to get an armor set?

I mean back in the day they were fully employed and didn't do anything so

Yes

I can't recall exactly what it was about, but back when Half-Life 2 was taking forever (six years was an insane development time back then), I recall some articles that seemed to stir up something, and people were commenting that it was being pushed by the higher ups at Valve (which I guess would be either just Gabe or perhaps him and some others) in order to get all the millionaires off their asses and work on Half-Life 2 (this was when team sizes were still rather small, though Valve had a larger than normal one for Half-Life (somewhere around 30?) at the time, so when you had a game get as huge as Half-Life did, the developers absolutely made bank).

That we'd see Valve still take forever and a day to do anything, especially with how Steam rivals the Fed for being a money printer, isn't all that surprising.

We are almost years 20 of this

All devs are long gone

If we do get a Half Life 3 expect some Modern Audience monstrosity

:kroniidrinking:

Then again maybe they are on the Onimusha cycle....
To a degree but Valve still shows no signs of modern rot even Alex was perfectly fine as a game even if boneworks was better.

All the bullshit to be mad at valve about is them abandoning their games or doing stupid things to steam. Then again finally fixing the bot problem (to a semi satisfactory degree) and the last comic generated a shit ton of goodwill so maybe they were just trying to soften the blow so to speak.

People keep playing other single player RPGs so what's the... oh that's right those are fun and have actual replay value. Tacking on fucking weekly bonuses and armor set does not make a game instantly replayable.

A lot of the original half life devs that came back to work on Alyx were hired on as contractors rather than full-on employees. Most of them were former Artists/Writers at Valve iirc.
They still want to work on Valve IPs it's just that the company itself shifted away from that and there's a mutual knowledge of that.

For all the retarded add ons and mobs Microsoft shoved into Minecraft, this actually is a good update for once. Happy Ghast seems like a good alternative to the Elytra.

Valve took several attempts at making HL3. I believe 3 full cycles at it, not less? We'll know it's coming when the first hints of Source 3 or Source 2.Rework happens.

Haven't really seen any footage outside of here and blurbs. Anything you've seen in particular that screams extreme racism in the story, also how crazy is the pay to win?

Because it's still a multi-national project with teams everywhere, it's bigotry is more subtle. But that's also generally the nature of actual Western Racism. There's never any honesty in the words, but the deeds show a complete disregard for a group and actively wants to destroy it. In the case of AC:Shadows, the biggest glaring is giving Yasuke a relationship option with one of the historically most loyal Women of her era. The reason they probably choose Oichi is the direct relationship with the Japanese Imperial Family. So, the racists at Ubisoft managed to double-whammy the racism. They suggested dishonorable actions on a Woman regarded for her loyalty and ran with the classic Western view of anyone dark skinned as not much more than some sort of "toy" to be played with. Considering the only other "romance" options are all men for Yasuke, cucking an Imperial Family ancestor with a gay African must have made many of them so happy.

You can also see the spite in the details. They spent far more time getting the gory kill animations, with plenty of beheadings, working well than play testing the stealth system. I'm pretty sure the original Deus Ex had vastly more effective enemy AI over 2 decades ago. The game mostly just exists to exist, and you can feel it watching more than about 10 minutes. That type of dispassion is how so much of the spite can get blended in. They clearly did not want to do a game set in Japan, but they were clearly forced to by Ghost of Tsushima.

It's very apparent when you see NPCs fail to climb up on buildings to chase you. They've been able to do that since the first Assassin's Creed and they even introduced an enemy archetype in AC2 that specialized in chasing you down by being faster than you in climbing and running. Everything else is painfully by the numbers.

Yup. Big games are devolving, but somehow taking 10-50x the cost to produce. Which means the money is going to middlemen, not the actual product. The credits for the game are 2 hours long and over 3000 people. For big, big games, some of the staff size makes sense. A localization company could easily have 50-70 names attached because you have to translates & type set all of the subtitles and redub the game. Do that for 6 languages and you've added 500+ ppl to a credits list.

A Whites Only GTA game would simply not exist.

No wait, that's Mafia.

No wait, those were Italians.
To be honest, I was surprised no one ever ripped off Breaking Bad for a game like GTA back when it was airing. Of course, the big players on that were all Mexican Cartel guys, but the main cast were oddly white.

i mean that was kind of the premise was it not?

This random white guy just decides to cook meth one day and suddenly hes a big time player as the guys who have been doing it for years are trying to figure out how to stop him who he is and sometimes ow to improve their own supply to compete.

and it's literally just this random white guy.

Most of these "seasonal drop" updates have been meh but this ridable ghast addition is actually kind of cool. If I can get it to be an adult in the End or transport it there somehow it'll make navigation there really easy. Which leads me to...

Please Mojang give us the Nether Update but for the End.
