Sorb3t was a three-girl Japanese-style idol group from California who made the mistake of posting videos to TikTok. One video in particular featured a girl in kawaii genki style teaching people to do a Japanese call and response like you see at idol concerts. She got eaten alive by the "muh cultural appropriation" crowd. The girl in the video then released another video apologizing for the cultural appropriation, so of course the bullying stopped, right? Yeah, that's how it works.
You know, when I was in Japan, I never met a single Japanese person who got angry at me when I fumbled around in their language. Maybe they were all just really busy and they're grateful that all these western people are getting indignant on their behalf so they have more free time. But somehow I doubt that.
