Since we have a lot of Tales fans, how should I play through the series? I bought Arise on Steam a while back intending to see what it was about and forgot about it until these posts.
Unless the game has "2" in its name or is called Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World or Narikiri Dungeon X, none of them are direct sequels or really even related at all, so whatever game looks the most interesting, go for it.

Edit: Except Zestiria. Don't bother with it.

PoE 2 balance patch, Vine Arrow players been executed, they now join the Trigger Gem refugees in trying to respec their build. Luckily for them, the gold cost for refunding points has been reduced quite a bit. Spark Archmage players like myself seem to be fine, as I saw no mentions of nerfs or buffs regarding anything we use. Seems like a pretty good patch, they made Combat Frenzy WAY fucking better, so my Monk has even more uptime of Power Charges with the Resonance keystone.

Oh yeah, and monsters got nerfed quite a bit. Along with no extra resistance penalties for map tiers (white, yellow, red), and chaos damage scaling less so your chaos res has even more impact than before.

POE 2 update:

Blood mage was such a bad pick. SO bad. I picked it initially because I wanted infinite curses on the field for my Chaos DOT build, and I REALLY wish I hadn't. You literally get nothing but a detriment with your first two Ascension points, so I literally left points on the board for 20 levels so I didn't have to deal with life drain without mitigation. I got ascension 2, that means I get spell leech to deal with the inherent life drain and can finally play my class, right?

:magnino:

There is practically no benefit to going blood mage. Functionally nothing. Even now at Ascension 3 I can't afford the points for infinite curse and spell crit because I have to go into leech + life to make it playable at all. And playable is a stretch, frankly. There is no point at which I'm getting reliable overheal, most of the time I'm weakening myself for no feasible gain. The only times I've gotten full overheal out of this ascension was against baby mobs which were never going to injure me enough to need a doubled life pool anyways. Against rare monsters you get obliterated, because you can't approach to get your overheal orbs without getting obliterated by one of the 24 different modifiers which punish you for getting close to a rare monster. Against bosses you can kind of, occasionally, get a little bit of overheal. Which immediately goes away when you cast a spell.

:confusedshuba::confusedshuba::confusedshuba:

Who thought this was a good idea? What is the point of an ascendancy class that is better to not use until endgame and beyond, just so you can win slightly more against small enemies? My lord, at least give the Life Remnants aura some unique support gems to make it less useless, or SOMETHING. I can't imagine a less useful class in an ARPG than this, the "good" stuff is marred by such a huge detriment that it's unusable in almost every scenario. Also, there are fucking uniques that do the exact same things as the capstones in this ascendancy anyways, so you could literally farm for items while playing Infernalist instead and actually enjoy the game.

:gunpeko:
You poor fucker. I'm so glad I went with Sorceress to play Stormweaver... I really hope they wise up and actually make Blood Mage worth a damn, because fuck do I love life stacking builds. I literally FLIPPED A COIN to pick what I league started as, so thank fuck luck was on my side.

Release order, going back and forth and losing all QoL will make the experience miserable, but some are skippable because their complete version was made after (ie Phantasia (SNES) > Phantasia (PS1), Graces (DS) > Graces F (PS3, PC)).
I'd leave NDX for last, it's more of a "celebratory" title if anything and it's really fucking good. Personally I'd skip Symphonia2, Zestiria and Berseria but I only hate Berseria on an emotional level, it isn't that bad (it's Shadow the Hedgehog but with a femMC which makes it extremely unfunny).

Thank Christ, I think forced role queue in every major mode was probably the biggest contributing factor to Overwatch tanking over the years. It was a lazy fix with the problem being "They can't balance worth a shit". DPS classes are nearly worthless in Overwatch, so the current balance in Rivals is a genuine breath of fresh air.
To be honest I think the whole thing about losing games because of bad team comps is overblown, because that shit happens in OW2 as well - for example if you have a stubborn one-trick who is being hard countered, or you're playing characters that don't have good synergy with each other. Also worth mentioning that the queue times in Rivals are insanely fast thanks to having open roles.

There's also substantially less hard CC in Rivals, which is another one of the reasons why OW became a chore.

I've been playing a lot of Mantis lately - her sleep spore is good in a pinch but it's nowhere near as oppressive as Ana's kit. Supports in OW2 are also still massively overtuned, whereas in Rivals I've found that when someone has low HP it's quite hard to keep them alive (especially if they're out of position, or you're having to manage a lot of people at once). Plus the gameplay is fast paced enough that if you waste a bunch of cooldowns keeping someone alive then you'll probably pay for it later.

People are tough on Rob Liefeld, but you gotta remember, he didn't go to art school, he never learned how to draw. All he did was doodle and kept at it, and eventually somehow, began getting gigs filling in for real pencilers. Then, he made it big; Just goes to show you that if you believe hard enough you can do something, the universe will throw you a bone.

Love for the characters is the main reason people are picking FF7R up, if anything they should be encouraging modding as heavily as possible to secure another gen of parasocial fans.
I'm almost certain this is to satisfy the copyright lawyers. The producers can say they made an effort to prevent copyright infringement and the people can continue to goon and mod to their heart's content.

The clearest example I can think of is Yoshi P and FF14. He's on record saying that all mods and 3rd party launchers are banned, but he also says he doesn't know what's on your PC. So basically mod or do whatever you want just don't talk about it on any official platform.

Side note - If you shoot the purple Mantis ghost on the CC'd person, it will kill the ghost and break the sleep.

A little more extensive:
  • Phantasia: PS1 English patch. PS1 is the best version that is translated. If Phantasia X for PSP ever gets patched in English, that is really the definitive version. It has full voice acting, the combat doesn't pause when you cast spells or summon, and it has additional tie-ins with Narikiri Dungeon X (it came packaged with it).
  • Destiny: The PS2 Director's Cut version with English patch. The original Destiny for PS1 was made between Phantasia SNES and Phantasia PS1, so it is super dated. Destiny PS2 is pretty much the best game in the series.
  • Eternia: PSP version with Undub. I will recommend the Japanese dubs for pretty much every game, but especially Eternia. The English version was made in the early PS1 era of Japanese game dubs, so it is a special kind of awful. Pretty much everyone sounds like they phoned it in. Skits were cut from the English version of game, highly recommend watching them on Youtube because they add a bunch of character development.
  • Destiny 2: English version not out yet, but being worked on.
  • Symphonia: PC release.
  • Rebirth: PS2 English patch just came out.
  • Abyss: Undub PS2. 3DS version is apparently shit, haven't played it.
  • Tales of the Tempest: LMAO
  • Legendia: Undub, the second half of the game wasn't dubbed due to budgetary constraints and them misunderstanding that the second half of the game wasn't just bonus content.
  • Vesperia: Definitive edition.
  • Graces: Graces f on PS3
  • Hearts and Innocence: The Vita versions. Hearts was released in English officially, but Innocence has an English patch for both its DS and Vita versions.
  • Xillia and Xillia 2 only released once on PS3 for now.
  • Zestiria is REALLY bad. The anime is actually good, though.
  • Berseria is the final traditional Tales game before they fired the series director. It is better than Zestiria, but nothing to write home about.
  • Arise is their best attempt in a long time, but still never hit the highs of the PS2 games for me.

Spinoffs/others that are mostly skippable:
  • Symphonia 2 is ass, like shipmate said.
  • Narikiri Dungeon X is great, like shipmate said and definitely worth playing. Only on PSP, but has an English patch. It is a direct sequel to Phantasia and a remake/re-imagining of its orginal Gameboy Color release. Has a lot of series tie-ins, which is why it is better to play after everything or before Zestiria.
  • Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage: Spinoff of Phantasia that takes place 400 years after it. Gameplay is a weird fusion of tactical RPG and traditional Tales gameplay. No English translation, not really all that great, anyway.
  • Tales of the World: Narikiri Dungeon 2 and 3: GBA only. These are fully spinoff games and are self-contained in terms of story. They are fun romps, though. Play after PS2 games if you feel like it. Have a lot of character cameos from other games. No full English translations, but they have menu translations if you wanna just experience them for their gameplay.
  • Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology: Only officially released TOTW game and on PSP only. Full 3D gameplay kinda fun with Tales characters from all the games up before it like the others in the TOTW series up to Tales of the Abyss. Lots of a grinding, from what I remember, though.
  • Radiant Mythology 2 and 3: More of the same, never released outside Japan. RM2 has characters up to Vesperia and RM3 has up to Graces. They have English menu patches, but that is it.
  • There are other spinoffs without the Tales battle system and mobile games that aren't worth mentioning.

So apparently Alanah is showing her colors from her time as an editor and a writer at IGN. She claimed that the Game Science CEO was crying when Astrobot won. A former editor-in-chief of IGN China was there with the Game Science team and has refuted her claim. People went through the footage to see the CEO was actually smiling when Astrobot won. People also pointed out that she was sitting ahead of the Game Science team too, as she was sitting with the Sony folks in the front row.

I saw that Lego Horizon launched to a peak player count of 602 on steam, and quickly dropped down to low double digits, despite having a massive budget (as evidenced by the gargantuan credits scroll) and being part of the C Suite's precious child of a franchise. Someone needs to take Hulst to a farm upstate, pronto.

But not before we get Horizon Kart, Horizon All-stars Duel, Typing of the Horizon, Horizon Arena...

It looked like a fine LEGO game, it can't be just the male woman thing right?

Apparently its very short for a lego game and only has 4 main characters according to this faggy culture war site i read up on

4 characters is like, early lego game tier, the most recent ones have a surprising amount of variety, but i havent played them since like 2010

It's not actually made by the same studio that makes the rest of the LEGO games, it's made by the Horizon studio.
