$100 mil down the drain, lmao.
The rumor is somewhere between $200-250 million.
Not even the F2P route, holy.
They're not going to retool this for F2P right?
That sounds like they will attempt to salvage an F2P setup.
Their second free weekend saw an 8% drop in players. F2P isn't saving this.

BUT I HOPE YOU'RE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO SONY'S NEXT ATTEMPT AT GAAS

They better shelve this shit and take the tax write-off

Seems like the people responsible for the failure are going to keep their jobs.
Just like when Forspoken's dev studio, Luminous Productions, was closed down but those developers were shuffled around the company. Square didn't kill the rot, they spread the rot around their company, primarily at Creative Business Unit 2 (Dragon Quest, Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, Nier). I know SSKTL had like 100 of their original devs that worked on the Arkham trilogy leave during development of SSKTL and they made their own studio called Hundred Star Games. The people at Rocksteady when SSKTL was in production are just retarded unworthy of the Rocksteady reputation, that studio is just a hollowed out imitation trying to sell games off of brand recognition. Now that SSKTL flopped, that brand value is worth jackshit.

Civvie plays Doom's new episode, Legacy of Rust, it's also been a long time since the last entry in the Pro series

They've been killing it with these new episodes, the ones they made for the Quake 1+2 remasters were also really good.

We're never getting a Bravely Default collection off the 3DS bros.

In other news, Atlus flew a bunch of content creators out to NYC to play the first 3 hours of Metaphor Re Fantazio. Below is one of the least spoilery vids I've seen on the subject.

A collection of people going nuts with the newly released Gundam Breaker 4's mech customization:

can't wait for the autism to set in. Every Mech is a Giant Penis.
This is a kind of worrying sign in the wake of DD2 releasing as mid as it was. I'm looking forward to Wilds but it looks like MonHun is going to have to hard carry the rest of the company. Again. Lots of that going around with various classic Japanese developers, like Square having been held afloat by FF14 for so long, and even that's wearing off.
Why are you all huffing these farts? not just you everyone on the doomtrain. Even if you don't like capcoms newer games (SF6 was good Rise was Fun RE VII and VIII were great.) Capcom is still leagues ahead of other shit companies.

start dooming when they start trying to add a battle pass to everything at least Capcom can improve.
The article says that more layoffs are coming. Looking forward to seeing it happen, I like seeing companies punished for pushing goyslop.
Maybe if the ones responsible were being laid off.
Damn, sony are gonna be hurting something fierce from Concorde. They're gonna have to pull out a miracle big hit out of the bag if they want to recover, can't think of what they could release for this.

fromsoft has to leave money for other studios.

At least SEGA had the foresight to kill Hyenas way early into production.
Sega didn't though. Hyenas was cancelled immediately right after the closed beta after years of development. $70 million dollars down the drain; their most expensive flop ever.

$100 mil down the drain, lmao.

It's at least $250 million USD, as Sony bought the company off a Venture Capital Fund that originally bought Firewalk.

Not even the F2P route, holy.

Tax write offs. That's the reason for the refunds.

Gotta wonder where all that funding went, because it sure wasn't the game.
Oh why even pretend? It's not like anyone actually thinks DEI shitters won't swindle every penny out of any project they're attached any more. Of course it was premium graft.

Late Stage Graft, at that. Concord was at least 2 other games at some point. You could see the DNA of it. There was an entire galaxy map with Lore entries. That was clearly for a different game. We've seen the DEI smear job normally happen late in development when a project is already at the point it probably should be canceled. The actual cycle isn't "Get Woke, Go Broke". It's "Go Broke, Get Woke, Then Croak". DEI is the really the newest iteration of the parasite class's trend chasing. It's the newest grift but there's money there for various global culture war reasons.

Whoa, full refunds for everyone. Not sure I've ever seen a failure of this scale.

It'll probably be a complete write-off. They're not going to retool this for F2P right?

...the game can't even host 3 separate matches on stream.

The engine is probably worth something. There's something that could be carved out of it all. They've got enough story CGI they could probably throw together a single player adventure game in a year.

"We want the Destiny audience" claims another.

Ah, yes, the classic "Why can't we make WoW money on a MMO?" issue. If you don't spend the gobs of money & time on prep work, you don't get the return. Destiny works because Halo exists.

At least SEGA had the foresight to kill Hyenas way early into production. This Concord debacle reminds me of when CliffyB thought he was "gonna make another billion dollar IP" by releasing Lawbreakers during the heyday of overwatch spam.

Lawbreakers might have actually worked with a bit more time, some fun mechanics there. The issue is what Overwatch did. Battleborn might have gotten it the worst. The BB team was multiple years into development when OW marketing hit, then had to crunch to get it out before Overwatch.

Yeah, there's no way they were going to recoup the entirety of their losses spent on this dogshit product so they're better off pulling a Zaslav and writing it all off for taxes. Even if it were to exceed their taxes, they can carryforward their loss for subsequent years.

That's the neat thing about the whole ordeal. They get special easy loans through DEI programs by doing the turbo woke stuff. The problem is that those woke changes usually tank their products, so even if they were previously able to get a normal loan, they no longer can because their company is so fucked. Now they're stuck committing to the DEI ideology as it forces them to circle the drain as losses outpace their loans. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

We've seen how many games tank this year because of it? Forspoken, Suicide Squad, Dustburn, and now Concord? The rumors about the sales and preorder numbers regarding Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin's Creed Shadows aren't great, so we'll likely hear about how poorly they did when the eventual financial report comes out and they have to explain to shareholders why shit is fucked. Ubisoft were trying REALLY HARD to assuage shareholders' concerns about the preorders regarding those games in their recent earnings call. They were explicitly asked how the preorders for those games were comparing to previous titles and they refused to disclose anything and said "they're highly awaited games of the industry". For how much Disney charges for licenses with Star Wars, they could potentially lose a lot of money if Outlaws doesn't sell well.

A $70 million dollar flop might barely break the top 5 for Sega's most expensive flops. This is the company that made the Sega Saturn and developed two competing versions of the Sega Dreamcast with two different developer teams, after all.

Truthfully, I don't think DEI has actually ruined a Game directly. Leadership has already made terrible decisions before the grifters and the racists all show up. It'd be as if Spain decided to join the Axis in December 1944 claiming it was a really good idea and then Social Media defenders show up to say how well the Battle of the Bulge is going.

They're an opportunistic infection. The rot was already there. The rot comes from many places, but it has to pre-exist. The real issue is when the infection reaches critical subsystems in an organization that no one really sees. The problems in Hollywood stem from something called "The Blacklist", which is basically one commie that had a culled list of screenplays that were "good" and it mostly has dictated what gets made there for a while. That's pure Gatekeeping, but it's stuff like that when the infection is actually terminal.

Forspoken I think was much more listening to late 2010s "Social Media Intelligence" consulting. They had these numbers that X will bring in Y and it'll do numbers. SS and Concord were at least 3 others games at one point in development and Dustborn is the most blatant case of Zoe Quinn-ing we've seen in a while. That was pure grift.

Yeah, there's already been those lectures posted of one of the people at Sweet Baby telling people to basically pester your boss about getting "DEI consulting" and pretty much blackmailing them like "it won't sell if you don't, blah blah, all the media outlets will give us a 3/10" when they all know the people in the gaming journalist sites. The higher ups were retards and didn't realize that these people are worthless and so are the reviews from gaming journalists. That shit requires the rot to already be in the company to happen but all the DEI shit has accelerated at breakneck speed.

Late 2000s/Early 2010s is when gaming stopped being labeled as a purely nerd hobby because of Call of Duty and Halo breaking containment at warp speed. Mid 2010s is when gaming really started to establish itself as a perfectly normal hobby among normies and that pushed the politically-obsessed to descend on the industry as fast they could, especially after GamerGate.

Gaming is the only thing in Media that actually makes money. Everything else losses money, aside from Theme Parks and Cruise Ships. Really not joking, that's why the Gaming Journalism space got taken over by activists. They could never get jobs in normal media (because it's mostly completely dead), but they'd all played mass market games growing up and, well, we're here now.

Hollywood figured out the hard way that the real money is in merchandising after George Lucas outjewed them.

It's got the uncanny design valley going hard. It looks okay, but it also just doesn't work. Also, it's got the Jumanji/Isekai thing going.
