I think my view is that Fate doesnt want to larp having any kind of authenticity to the mythological or histroical figures it genderbends and turns into otaku faggots or some shit

AssCreed played around with filling in the gaps in historical records by using its templar and assasin OCs , but otherwise did pretty basic attempts to depict certain events, locations or eras with some degree of historicity, you can get basic beats and even insights into random events from their depictions in the games, i dont think Fate's core series had that, while GO did have some events based on history

Lastly, i dont think Fate fans feel smug about knowing much of real events because Da Vinci is their favorite anime girl, while the whole AssCreed shadows discourse mainly got its flames of autism fanned by bizzare attempts to legitimize Yasuke because he pops up in a video game,
There doesn't need to be a presumption of historical authenticity for the depiction to be offensive, a franchise presenting King Arthur as actually a woman and here "she" is sucking Japanese dick in a menage-a-trois because weebs want a waifu is bizzare enough as presented for outsiders who aren't deep enough in anime culture to handwave it. Clearly they are interested in the mythology and culture of it all, or they wouldn't be invoking it and writing around how these figures would interact within the plotlines (sometimes in historical regions), but fundamentally it's all warped around the desire to sell people something to beat off to which is the purest form of exploitative writing.
And focusing on the upcoming AssCreed being inauthentic is a weak argument, because Yasuke provably factually existed. He has no particular deeds or history of note beyond that, but that's the only veneer the franchise has ever needed, it's pretty much always been just an excuse for interesting settings and vistas. Unless you want to say the most notorious figures from the Golden Age of Piracy were all secretly involved in a world-spanning conspiracy regarding free will and so on. Taking such characters and spinning them out into Historical Fantasy isn't anything new for the franchise.
It's all about the motives of the writers and surrounding context that makes it all suspicious. It's possible to do these DEI projects with good writing and in a way that makes sense, but Ubisoft isn't going to get the benefit of the doubt with that context and people have such a hair-trigger for it now after years and years of hack writers shoving this shit down people's throats that it's really just out of touch of them to try and jump on the bandwagon this late. Peak Ubisoft basically.
Now stop making me defend a franchise I don't even like by waving an even more egregious example in front of me

I think we'll just agree to disagree but id still argue that Shadows is more retarded because of the series' past of trying to be accurate when Fate hasnt.
Fate was always an odd Nip hentai game that had female king arthur sex, but otherwise had no effect on the cultural side besides within its own niche

Shadows in comparison started an autistic debate that has some people demanding that some dubious historical records be accepted, when we have no proof any other way, the fact that its autistic discourse is carrying it and can poison any sort of discussion on the era is just stupid, id consider Fate less egrigious even though its porn simply because of that lack of autistic culture war effect beyond its tiny niche

IDK why you all care so much about a series that peaked 14 years ago and has doled out the same shlop close to yearly since. This applies to every Ubisoft game, too.

It's funny that despite that being true, Fate was still the most indepth and accurate (yes, really, at least for post-Galfridian works) portrayal of arthurian lore since Tennyson. Say what you will about Nasu, the dude was clearly passionate about mythology and did his research.

In another bold and stunning move, Ubisoft presented a replica of Yasuke's katana and mask at Japan Expo. Unfortunately for them, someone noticed that Yasuke's sword is actually Zoro's Sandai Kitetsu as the patterns, colors, and writing on the stand all match.
Ubisoft's Replica:

These Canadian retards probably typed "Oda sword" in google and copied it not realizing it was Eiichiro Oda, not Oda Nobunaga. So they decided that giving the black Samurai hiphop music whenever he entered combat wasn't enough, they made him a thief as well.

I honestly believe that the only counter to ubisoft's pop revisionism is to not to heed any attention to their crap. With each griftuber submitting their own 29-hour-long essay, it's placing this title enough on the spotlight that Joesixpacks might just check it out and in the process, continue to give ubisoft funds for their next fatuousness.

On the other hand I'd say the Fate series is infinitely more tasteless and offensive than what Asassins Creed is doing here. Messing with and genderbending not only major figures of myth and folklore but actual real-life historical figures from other cultures so they can make money from hypersexualising them is nakedly (heh) exploitative. To the extent I can agree with the idea of cultural appropriation at all, Fate is maybe the number 1 example.
Yasuke, who is a real historical figure as presented, is "only" suspect due to the shady motives of the people writing and producing the game by comparison.
Counterargument: Saber is cute and has nice tits, Yasuke does not.

I just finished Prey (2017), and by extension all the good Arkane games. If Half-Life and System Shock had a lovechild, it would be this. It's a damn shame this game was slept on when it came out, and it's also hard to believe this same studio would go on to put out Redfall and spell out their demise.

Immersive sims are a rarity, and this one was certainly a treat.

Prey was so fucking good. It was absolutely ruined by the baffling decision to name it Prey. They should have renamed it once the project became something other than an actual sequel.

Yeah it absolutely should have been "Neuro/Psycho Shock", even "Typhon" probably would have been better.

The latter half may drag on a little but it's probably in the running for "Strongest Opening" in video games.

Arkane projects have generally had some of the worst game marketing of all time for a large publisher. It's been a consistent problem since even Dishonored 1. It's cost them a massive amount of money because no one has a clue what the games even are, thus killing the buzz. Deathloop might have been the worst of the bunch. While the black main characters was a really obvious "current day" ploy, it's deep problem was the marketing was confused as all hell.

The current update on the hilariously racist AC:Shadows is the Japanese Autists have been digging through things. Turns out there's one British English Professor that was trying a narrative and spent a long time getting it elevated as real. Also appears the version of the books he's published were put forward as Fiction in Japan with quite a lot removed. He's also almost wholly responsible for the Wikipedia entry. It's a very strong example of "inventing a false truth".

AC:Shadows is still hilarious racist, but this kind of just keeps getting better.

In a similar vein to AC: Shadows, Genshin Impact is currently undergoing a boycott by twitter freaks because the characters aren't black enough (no, I am not joking). This has been going on for years, but has risen to a fever pitch now that all of the currently previewed Natlan characters either aren't black or aren't the right shade of black - they can hem and haw about "cultural appropriation" all they want, but come the fuck on, everyone knows exactly how these very same people feel about AC: Shadows and "cultural appropriation".

I am going to try my best to limit myself to one tweet per bullet point because diving through genshin fan brainrot makes me want to kill myself, but by all means, don't just take my word for it. The initial response from HoYoVerse boiled down to "this is a fictional game, please touch grass", which only served to increase their anger. How dare they not capitulate to their demands, etc.

Officially partnered content creators and even the English voice actors of the game are making a stink about it, but that's just the English VA community in general, nothing that we didn't already know about them. They will quite literally jump on [CURRENT THING] at the drop of a hat, even if it's against the very same people they seek employment from.

Archive

What is their proposed solution to get what they want? Simple, really: they will stop playing the game and spending money on it, and everyone against them are BIGOTS. No, you can't just keep playing the game yourself or not agree with them, if you are against their cause, you are the problem as well. Which, doing even a fraction of this in any other industry would get them fired and blacklisted! These people are utilizing mafia tactics and expecting companies to not only follow suit, but continue to pay them or give them work afterward! I can not stress enough how insane this is! I mean, you can't get any more clear-cut "are we the baddies?" than "keep your foot on their necks", it's just a video game, holy shit!

Why do I not believe that they will stop harassing the company and its employees if these characters are simply "made more black"? Because then they would cry racism at any possible slight otherwise. As an example: Elfy is a main NPC in the newly released Zenless Zone Zero that the player interacts with daily, she recycles unwanted equipment into new equipment, AND she is the exact sort of "representation" that these people cry about on the regular. So, you'd think she would be everything they want design-wise, right? Unfortunately, there is a record cover in the background of her shop that renders this "representation" null and void, because these people have never seen a penguin in their lives, and immediately jump to "this is blackface"...despite various other Penguin motifs being present in the game as well (including various pieces of equipment referencing penguins, if not being penguins outright).

Archive

If they want to continue this boycott while harassing the employees and people running the social media accounts? By all means, that's entirely on them, and these crybullies should be laughed at and archived in the process. If this boycott gets out of hand - which currently seems possible, with how quickly things are heating up - it's best to have a record of their actions so that they don't try to gaslight everyone that they "simply wanted more representation uwu".

Otherwise, it's Genshin Impact fans being Genshin Impact fans, news at 11.
