Picked up the Steam Deck for my 40th birthday a few weeks ago.

How dare you be almost a full year older than me! I'm losing out on my special "oldfag" status here!

Picked up the Steam Deck for my 40th birthday a few weeks ago. Surprised at how much it's motivated me to chew through my backlog. Allows me to play a decent chunk of my library while hanging out and watching the kid (instead of just watching Disney films on loop and doomscrolling my phone.) Thus far beaten Nine Sols, Guacamelee 1 and 2, and am trying out Etrian Odyssey a bit before Wilds comes out in a few days and dominates my life. I expect it's going to be flipflopping between JRPGs and Action Combat games for a bit.
I've had mine for a few years, and I love it. I've beaten quite a few games during downtime at work, when I'm out of town, or even just sitting in my house on my couch or something rather that sitting at my desktop. On top of having access to all my Steam games, it's an emulation powerhouse. I've played and beat plenty of older games through emulation on it too. Definitely very happy with the purchase.

For anyone who plays Re:Fantazio, should I be doing squad battles as much as I can, or just field-killing all the enemies that I can get away with to save HP/MP? I was looking up whether I should try to fight the dragon in the mines, and it said that you should be level 10 by that point, while my party was 8/8/9 and I'd been killing everything I could from the start.

Best gaming purchase I've made in years.

Field/killing, what you can get away with.

The big thing is if you get a section that allows you to insta-kill enemies, turn your lead into a mage archetype. Every enemy you kill in the field will regen part of your party's mana.

That's what I did in the mines, now the MC is healer because I'm in the cathedral and there are tons of light/strike-vulnerable enemies.

Tae would be worth pursuing even without the meds, best girl in the game and I'm not normally into shorter hair.

Remember Dauntless? No? Well, after basically shuttering their studio, the game itself is shutting down after poor reception to the recent overhaul. Surprise!

Monster Hunter: World stunted Dauntless' growth in its first year, and Monster Hunter: Wilds will bury it. It's like pottery, it rhymes!

Only game I ever bought a founder's pack for, and I really enjoyed the game until they decided to change from MH-ish progression to the infinite prestige grind years ago.

Oh, no, that's not the overhaul I was talking about! They had another update a few months ago that overhauled the game, where you can no longer craft weapons, and need to fork over cash money for the good stuff!

They also took away everyone's already-grinded-for weapons, so they had to buy them all over again. This went over about as well as you would think!

Oh, I'm well aware, the infinite grinding update dropped literally years ago, but it's what got me to stop playing, and me and some friends were looking forward to the new release to start again because of weapon switching, the infinite prestige shit going away, and legendary weapons being made actually good instead of being fun but dogshit. Then they dropped the devblog about fucking lootboxes, one-time-use gems and other shit an I did a 360 and walked away.

It's really a shame because the game had a really good period where it was good and different enough from the good MH games to be its own fun thing. The escalation roguelite mode was really fucking good and a great idea, and combat being extremely fast and focused on dodging rather than outright positioning was great. The monster designs were mostly good and a lot of fun to play against, including all of the goofy shit like the Touhou beetle that fills the screen with bullets, or the crow that summons shadow clones.
