So some very nice folks are doing God's work by archiving various music streams that would otherwise be lost to time. I'd like to proposal a dedicated archival thread, devoted exclusively to posting links to archived streams and downloads.

Alongside this I'm also inclined towards giving people who consistently archive stuff a new banner to highlight their efforts.

This wouldn't be a discussion thread, just a place to post archive links.

I think we could also use a thread for archiving major news like
new debut announcements,
casting announcements like Monarch landing the one Piece role or a company getting into a game like Ina Fubuki Shien PSO,
roommate info, (smartly shot down by @uquusquad )
birthday/anniversary streams
Graduation announcements (tho I think you said those would get dedicated threads of their own)
Charity streams

This would work the same as the proposed 2view shill thread where you would post the news in the main thread and crosspost it to the news thread

No!
A thread in which roommate info and dox is neatly organized is going to attract freaks. The reason the old thread gets away with it (, without being swarmed by degenerate shizos or white knighting crusaders), is due to two factors.
1. the culture of said thread and 2. because all the roommate info is buried in 6 thousand - soon 7 thousand pages of unfiltered autism. Most people won't sift through a thread that is as big as the combined work of tolstoy and dostoevsky just to figure out if their oshi is boyfriend- or girlfriend-free, which is why these topics can be discussed there in peace.
(Despite that some people manage to break containment or like say henri, join and derail the thread)
I challenge you to go to nyf** and read some of the comments on any english vtuber (male or female). Do we want these people shitting up this site? Should we not try to gatekeep, at least a little?

Fair point no roommate info then do your reps instead

Honestly I would say the only things that deserved to be archived are unarchived streams (karaoke, "oops" VoDs and the like).
Everything else is what the main thread is for, if anyone asks, just tell them to use the search function, that's what it's there for.
Debuts are never worth keeping cause they have no real relevance to the vtuber afterwards, except for watching it a year later for cringe.

Ok, hypothetically, if someone was doing a thread recap of first 52 pages, and hit a hard limit of 10 000 characters per post on page 30, how should they solve the problem?

I was planning to do a recap of big moments and paste it into my post on page 52 of the main thread.

EDIT: Right now I'm thinking about splitting all that into diffirent posts and of course link them to each other.

I genuinely envy your insane dedication. I would personally make it some kind of attachment. I've used pastebin before, and they have the option for permanent pastes. Does that have a character limit? I'll admit I've never dealt with text files that huge outside of torrents.

Hm, had bad history with pastebin before, the document that time was MUCH bigger, but didn't have any links. I guess I will try to split the thing between posts and interlink everything for now, if something better comes up I will edit it out. First thread recap [post], any feedback welcome!

Also, Scoots is doing something similar, maybe he has better idea [post]. We all just learning, I guess.

EDIT: And what do you mean my insane dedication, you created this whole website! Thank you for that btw

Well, I sure wish I'd read this before crossposting shiina's infodump yesterday. Although there's no actual doxx (faces, addresses, emails) there's very specific info about her past chuuba persona and roommate.
Should I redact parts of the post so it would comply with these guidelines?

No. What you made was pretty great. The 'worst' thing is the RL pic, and that's censored anyway. I would love to see more stuff like that.

No it's fine to post it in the main thread cause it'll get buried we just don't want to archive it in easily accessible fashion

Closest archive will be in my recaps

Cross-reply from the main thread:

As someone who generally tries to avoid getting caught up in roommate-posting, it would be nice if it were segregated away from the main thread. I'm not a purist who's totally against it (or else I wouldn't be here at all, of course) but I think avoiding it and letting the characters just be themselves is fun on its own. Also, lately, I've decided that it's hypocritical to hope that my own privacy is respected on the internet while reveling in the tearing down of the privacy of others.
I also prefer not to engage, but I think roommate-posting in the main thread is fine. But when someone makes roommate info their primary objective for using the site, as opposed to using the site because they want to read or talk about Vtubers and Vtubing, that's when the quality of discussion tanks.

Pros of having a roommate compilation:
- Prevents timelooping

Cons:
- Attracts retards
- Attracts takedown notices

So is there a way to have the good and not the bad? (Aside from the takedown notices, which have to be addressed differently.)

Probably not possible with stock XF but it would be ideal to just have a PL thread locked behind forum membership and x number of posts/reaction score.
This would be nice. It would keep the tourists and random lurkers away while at the same time possibly help the site grow by having more users actively replying or posting. Since its tied to reaction scores, people looking to shit up the forums would get ratio'd out.
Assuming there was a way to do this (Johnny Jambalaya is probably right that it can't be done with stock XF, or @The Proctor wouldn't have had to give out Early Adopter manually), pros and cons:

Pros:
- Automated decentralised gatekeeping

Cons:
- Encourages gaming of reaction scores. E.g. new accounts post memes to collect the requisite number of updoots a la Reddit. Many users (like myself) are liberal with their updoots and I don't want to have to think about giving them out.

I don’t think it would be that big of an issue honestly. I’m kind of autistic when it comes to the points. The 10:1 (reactions : posts) ratio is I think the best generally achievable by posting quality (unless you’re an extraordinary poster like @thhrang at 12:1). I know this because I intentionally tried to keep mine at 10:1 for the first 100 posts as a small personal game. I’ve turned reaction notifications off since then so if the quality has gone down that’s why lmao.

I think something like 400 reaction score or maybe even less would be ok. I’ve not really looked at newer members to see what they’re typically at though.

The only serious issue I have with roommate-posting is fleshposting, aka when people share pictures of roommates. Sometimes this is fine and unambiguous (like when Nyaru shows her RL body on stream), if mildly irritating when people thirst over them or excessively comment on their bodily features. What I dislike is when people share photographs of random women who may or may not be the roommate in question, then claim that it is. I've seen this get retarded quite fast, and runs the risk of random unrelated people getting dragged into drama because people think they're somebody they aren't.

I skimmed through the members list and it looks like we have around 168 members with a score of 100 or greater (I might have miscounted, but it's around that number). The most common score is 0 with a post count of 0. If people didn't already have something interesting/funny/useful to say, we don't need to be egging them on to make posts just to get to a reaction score limit and unlock the super secret roommate info. The thread already moves fast enough with us just posting for our own satisfaction.

I think your annoyance of someone fleshposting random unrelated people is warranted. However, I don't think you should start cracking down on fleshposting in the main thread. At least, out right banning it or discouraging someone from posting. Especially if it's an informative post.

People should be allowed to provide their findings of something, as long as they have some proof of connections such as the Rie and Shiina fleshposts. If they have nothing and just post that a Anon from x, y, or z says, this is them without something backing it up like a social media connection, self-posting, etc. Then yeah, in a way that is troublesome and should be removed due to no proof of it's authenticity, spoilered tag and stating a warning before the post, or other means.

It's reasonable that some here don't care about it or like to not engage in roommate posting-related content and that's fine. Although, those who do should be allowed to and one can choose to ignore such posts, the media content of roommate posts can be spoiler tagged, etc.

Lastly, there are not that many places on the web where you can freely talk about Vtuber stuff, such as roommate things with some level of freedom, without running into people treating it like a taboo or stigma. Yes you have the farms, but even that's a crackshot as of late, with how the site is barely stable rn like a menhera Vtuber!

I think there can be a balance in it all, but this continuous push here against the overall subject of roommate posts is missing one of the main points why people stuck around the ancestral thread and here.

I didn’t realize the amount was that low. In fairness I guess I was brainstorming a solution to a problem for something I don’t see as a problem. I’m fine with the status quo of flesh posting in the main thread.

To be clear, I wasn't talking about fleshposting in the main thread. I was talking about an archive thread where the info is compiled instead of left to search-fu, much like there is an archive thread for Yugo's graduation in parallel with discussion in the main thread. I am personally fine with the status quo of fleshposting/talking about PLs in the main thread and not having any archive thread. However, there have been a few requests for an archive thread in the past few weeks. I'll reiterate I am against a public archive or an all-members archive, not because I'm pushing against fleshposts or PL posts, but because:
when someone makes roommate info their primary objective for using the site, as opposed to using the site because they want to read or talk about Vtubers and Vtubing, that's when the quality of discussion tanks.
I can't really explain why this is. I can only say that it is the case, from the precedent of the Japanese dox sites, as quoted below.

No!

This is one of those things that's really hard to enforce as a rule, but I'd suggest to anyone posting roommate material to give a QRD on how you found the information in the post itself so we can reasonably assess how accurate it is. It makes sense to discuss clear-cut examples where they accidentally flashed an email on screen/posted to the wrong account/are Karen etc. in the main thread, but I'd argue things like the post the other day that was allegedly Shiina with the only source being "some guy on /pcg/ keeps spamming it" should probably be in the /vt/ insanity thread instead.
