I think I can now put my thoughts on modern art into words. The problem with modern art is that the artist creates something devoid of meaning and requires the viewer to do the thinking for them.

A Pollock painting doesn't represent anything. It's just visual noise. What happens is the viewer sees the painting and creates meaning themselves. There's nothing special about the art because it relies on the subjective thinking of the person looking at it.
