Lol, I can't speak for LA, but I've been in NYC plenty of times and you're unlikely to be accosted or assaulted unless you're somewhere you shouldn't be late at night, like back alleys in ethnic areas. I've also been in notoriously violent shitholes like Cleveland, Detroit, Chiraq, St. Louis and Houston, and the truth is the violence there is concentrated in shitty areas that you have no reason to be in ever, like the South Side of Chicago. Basically, if you're in a major city and the population gets dark and the stores morph into Cricket stores and payday loan shops with bars on the windows, get the hell out of there before the sun goes down.
