From personal experience I can say that people who are obsessed with politics to the level that Clara is do so because they don't have a lot going on in their personal lives. It gives them a feeling of purpose that they are desperately lacking. Back in my NEET days, I was much more into politics than I am now. I would follow every bullshit news story, get angry and bitter and I was not very pleasant to be around most of the time. Then I got a job that I really enjoy and I stop focusing on politics all that much. I still try to keep up with the news, but it's not one of the most important things in my life anymore and I'm much happier because of it.

Also, just like Clara, I am a gaijin living in Japan. I know full well that Japanese society can be socially isolating and it can be really hard to make friends sometimes. Judging by how much time Clara spends online, she doesn't seem to have many friends. One of the first things I did when I came to Japan was join a gym and I've made some good friends from there despite my Japanese being absolute dogshit. At the end of the day, you just need to get out of the house, do something you enjoy and you'll probably make some friends while doing it.

I doubt Clara will ever read this, but my advice is to put down the phone, focus on doing work for Phase Connect or go outside. You'll be much happier for it. Trust me.
funny story about making friends in Japan. While in Japan I manage to make friends who happen to live in the same area as I do. We still talk to each other and hang. And it was all thanks to a Pippa keychain. Thanks Pippa you got my parents to stop worrying about me being a loner after they moved to a different region. :pippasquish:
