So I've been having a fun little adventure lately thanks to some glitched out shit on twitter. Recently I posted this little dig at Cover Corp on the AO account...

Eventually I moved on from caring about it and muted it. But some intern over in Elon Town dotted the wrong I or some shit and now muting a tweet no longer stops notifications for quote tweets, so I've become inundated with shitloads of barely literate, 20-follower zoomer accounts giving their hottest of hot takes that I can't stop from flooding my mentions. This shit's made the AO account nigh-unusable. But that's just momentarily annoying. Here's what I find really interesting:

I knew Hololive had Nintendo-esque loyalists way too parasocial not just with the VTubers, but the company itself (YAGOO is best girl, and all that), so them being angry I dared to criticize Cover, that doesn't shock me. What I did find surprising is the amount of responses that seem to be shitting on Gura for not being willing to do what was "expected" of her by Hololive. Some even seem to have emotionally threw Gura in the trash and replaced her with Fuwamoco.

Is this a more prevalent sentiment than I expected? Is this just a thing now? Where it's not about your oshi anymore, but the company? All loyalty to the corporation, not the talents?! I expected the ESL "how dare you"s but this really caught me off guard.

A lot of them just seem to anti gura for not streaming consistently, which is an undeniable fact, that has nothing to do with company worship or "le nintendrones" though. Gura was the most subscribed and therefore known by normies vtuber out there, it stands to reason that she has a ton of antis.

First you'll have to explain what you mean by "force a brand out of her" as far as we're aware she wasn't forced to do anything she didn't want to and second they're a company of course they'd want to make brands of all their talents so it just comes across as more random pointless misinformed bitching and third and last I don't have anything against Gura I liked her well enough but she was never my favorite out of Myth but how much less work did you want her to do seriously you can tell how checked out of all this she was when you compare her graduation week to Mumei's

There's a difference between things like selling standard VTuber merch and putting a talent front-and-center as the face of your company when it's clear she's burnt out and brainwormed over her numbers. When she's on break #40 and openly saying how she's suffering from burnout and her success has her rattled, that might not be the time to come to her with the next major event or corporate brand deal you want her to be a part of if you don't want to completely drive her away.

As fun as the Dodger's thing was, you know that shit didn't help matters on Gura's end. It's been discussed to death, so I'm not going to dredge it up again, but Gura's departure was very much on Cover. Holo fans can cope all they want about what "disagreements with management and company direction" actually means, but it's pretty clear to anyone listening, especially with how emotional she was, this was a case of "I didn't leave the company, the company left me." When your biggest name can walk out any time she wants, one would think you wouldn't want to accelerate her chances of doing that, and would attempt to accommodate her. It goes beyond her lack of streaming, because she's not even the only Holomem to start streaming less. Ayame's streaming schedule became a meme, after all.

tl;dr if you have a major talent in your roster freaking out about their status, and you accelerate that status, you're gonna drive them away, and it's on you.

It wasn't Cover that drove her away. Cover was content to just let her chill and stream, or even let her chill and not stream, as the last few years have shown.

And how would you fix that? No seriously how? Did you want Cover to remove any and all trace of her? To Stop giving her offers for stuff like the cafes, The Lakers, and her own merch? To somehow limit the amount of viewers that watch her stream? Because nothing they could do can stop people from showing up to watch her and saying they accelerated her status despite the fact that anything she did drew huge amounts of eyes no matter what just screams to me your retarded and just looking to bitch

It goes beyond streaming. I brought up the Dodgers for a reason.

Also if you're going to say Cover didn't drive her away when management and company direction were the exact reasons she specified for leaving, I don't know what to tell you.

No, yes, no.

"We have this mega-popular talent who brings us lots of money, but she's also on an emotional knife-edge regarding her popularity. She's in a state where she could leave at any time over this, what do we do?"
"Put her on the jumbotron at Dodger's Stadium"

You have two options with a talent like Gura. Long-term and short-term. Long-term is to accommodate the fact she's openly uncomfortable with being the face of EN VTubing and scale back her presence as the face of your brand. Or you take the short-term and milk the shit out of her for every penny you can until she leaves. Cover chose the latter. You can argue if that's the right choice or not, but it is their choice.

Talents can turn down sponsorships if they feel like it, thing is who doesn't need money to say no to a fat paycheck, we all know Gura was tired of something but it sure as shit wasn't sponsorships, if anything she may have felt annoyed about perms and projects not moving forward.

I can't wait for her to come back and get like two hundred thousand live viewers suddenly realize her fame will follow her wherever she goes and then she fucks back off and does whatever the fuck she's already been doing besides streaming

1- The vtuber needs to accept the sponsorship otherwise you would have seen Gura be slapped by Cover in every single Holo collab or sponsor wich was not the case
2- You ask for the impossible , she didnt stream for months and people still showed up for return streams , Senzawa posts on twitter had thousands of likes and despite streaming less than every single member of Stars JP,EN and Holo ID she still had more watched hours that all of them combined , there was no way to destroy her popularity.
3- Universal really pushed Calli really hard with their music deal but she still isnt as popular as Gura then when both Advent and Justice debuted they got pushed harder by HoloEN then both DEVIS REGLOSS AND FLOWGLOW are the most promoted gens of all time by Cover and even so they cant beat her in popularity......
