I remember when MLP:Friendship is Magic first started to pop off. So, went and watched it. I can definitely see why it would have a multi-level audience, though it was still very much a children's show. Then I found out what a Brony is. One of the first times I truly realized that, collective, the Internet had gone too far. It's been downhill since then.



Fauna isn't old enough for the big craze period, but they very much has stuck around since then. Going through several cycles, and girls still like them, especially with branding deals. Funkopops ended up being beanie babies round 2, lol.

Reminds me of a conversation I had about 2 years ago. A guy, who was already decently successful, was going to get a lump payout for some reason I forget. He was thinking about putting like 50k into Crypto mining. I managed to talk him out of it and into his second idea, which was a smoke shop. Needless to say, the smoke shop was profitable after 3 months and completely repaid the 70k he'd put into start up in 6 months. And he's opening another one. Lesson? Don't follow trendy BS. Second lesson? If you live in the States, Smoke Shops that aren't skeezy are really solid investments right now.

First off MLP:FIM is probably the best modern show out there for little kids (shit like Mr Rogers the Muppet show (especially the movies) or The Street will never be surpassed.) memes aside it is a step above most children's entertainment. And yes I have watched every episode as it came out (point and laugh at me) its not perfect by any means it's not even great (outside of a few standout exceptions) but the bar is so low because of shit like Barney (watch one episode you have watched the entire show) Caillou (teach your kids to whine and bawl every time you don't get your way) or Dora the Explorer (just assume all children are autistic ill let the internet decide that thanks)

Brony's share all the warning labels troons come with ponyfuckers and pedophiles everywhere walk softly carry a big stick or axe anygroup who makes "cupcakes" or "rainbow factory" level fics is a fandom to avoid

Beanie Babies are a fine felt/plush friend that makes tonnes of cash off artificial scarcity and have since they first came out and only continue to exist because beanies are the most widely recognized "collectible" item even over shadowing pokemon (most people think of pokemon as a show or games before collectables_ combined with the "we will never make this one again" and your market is entirely driven by FOMO.

As for MLP:FIM, I do agree that it's quite good. It's a great kids show, and if Internet Culture hadn't over taken it, it'd probably be cemented as a new, long-term toy market among the female demographic. Basically, She-ra or Barbie in construction. It's still going, but seems to have fallen off a good bit. But I think what really did the series in had more to do with the fact that FIM is the 4th(?) gen. So there was a pre-existing group of people that could latch onto it far too easily, especially since it was a popular, girl-targeted product. Which is probably the real Red Flag around the "Brony" movement.
