We're more sensitive to loli stuff because of the controversy back home, but I get the feeling the mass market (well, as mass market-adjacent as anime can be) don't really think too deep into it. Remi and Shiina's designs raise an eyebrow to us but they're no more provocative than some of the anime on Crunchyroll etc., and they're multi-million dollar companies with all kinds of business partnerships.
Internet drama content can't disappear into the crowd as easily, since the mainstream media and internet personalities have made sure that the least charitable interpretation of every community that discusses it becomes the official story (even if it's a flat-out lie), so even acknowledging The Hacker Known as 4chan or the forum that literally kills transgender people in another context is a faux pas.
I'm glad that Pippa and Lumi are standing their ground about the content they want to cover on stream though I can understand why recent developments have scared Sakana into wanting to wrangle the community into at least hiding their power level a bit better. The kinds of people who might start shit over Phase's reputation as the "based" corpo wouldn't stop at getting a video taken down or a channel banned or whatever; they're nasty, malicious people who want to hurt anyone in the radius of a person or company they see as a target. What they did to Josh was the canary in the coal mine for that, and they got away with it. It makes sense to want to lie low in the areas these people are watching.
I admit I'm not typically in the camp of being sensitive over loli, but having started off at the farms I did end up adopting a "Well even if I personally don't think it's too much, I'd better take a moment to think if the site owner does." Which I just carry over here.
It's definitely true that the vtuber anime girls, well, just look like anime girls. You can find any number of scantily clad girls in anime, manga, games, gachas, etc.
As you say though, the other hand part that sucks is that the entire internet is just cancerous with the perception of how things look. And these days anything that isn't toeing the line of the "correct values" makes you some sort of villain that not only needs beaten, but more or less removed from being allowed to exist.
We're in a timeline where half naked little girls is a general "That's fine." or cross dressing children is stunning and brave, but people try to cancel you if you throw out a Nigga during karaoke.
We'll just have to see if things change in time. Both with the Phase Connect stuff and the real life dumbassery.
I think at the very least if Pippa left Tenma and Lumi would be looking to leave as well if it due to content disputes. Not just because they'd be loyal to Pippa or whatever, but both of them have edgier content that would probably be in danger once the Pipnary in the company is gone. It would probably also be in both Phase's and their best interest at that point for a cleaner break that doesn't create any bad blood by trying to force things one way or the other.
Tenma is an interesting case I think. She's not actually super yab, but she IS aware of how retarded social media/cancel culture garbage has gotten and seems to know how to avoid those minefields. The woman definitely pokes fun at it. Sometimes I wonder if her ESL might give her a bit of immunity to it as well. As long as she doesn't say anything wild it's probably a bad look to try and swing at someone who's clearly not English twitter raised.
On the other hand I actually do believe she's loyal enough to roll with Pippa. If Pippa goes then Lumi likely leaves because she'll be dealing with the same issues Pippa did at that point or shortly after. Who else is going to be the phase yab master if Pips is gone? Yuri likely also goes with Lumi again, and the two of them already dealt with getting fucked over by a company so they're probably both ready to just shrug and say fuck it then.
