I've gotten Giri in my twitch and youtube recommended from time to time in 2024, basically as she was slowly switching to RL streaming more and more often, and from my personal impression the content she wanted/wants to make just didn't really fit vtubing overall. Like cooking streams will fundamentally work better when you can see what the cook is doing around the kitchen, and she seems to do a lot of "zatsu while walking around" streams which are just impossible with a model.

The walking/cooking with others streams are far more popular. That's the other part of the puzzle. She moved to Tokyo, so she basically has endless content just wandering around the many, many, many streets of the city.

Seeing this makes me wonder how some folks, like Calli, that have done live performance prior to vtubing feel. I can't imagine performing from a backroom in a venue when the crowd is somewhere else in the building. There'd probably be less stage fright but you're missing out on that immediacy and energy of the people being right there. I totally get why Yuka, especially since she's actually playing an instrument to boot, would ditch an avatar. I guess some folks don't anticipate how antiseptic and disconnected a virtual performance can feel until they've done it.

There are plenty of incels that are such because they don't put in effort and/or have too high standards, however there are some that have rock-bottom standards and try that still get nothing. I can't think of a femcel that isn't getting any with rock-bottom standards with the tiniest modicum of effort.

It's complicated, I'd like to say it's their audience and don't like-don't watch. But I also think when it's a corpo it can set expectations for other talents who may have no interest, need or ability to do these things.

I also think excessive baiting with body descriptions and anecdotes is just as lame and in a way lower. Just bringing up how hot your body is over and over with zero accountability takes advantage of the vtuber audience being banned form asking for IRL material. A step further is putting material on stream like "Pic out my new outfit" streams where the audience is being asked to constantly re-imagine the Vtuber as an unrelated model on screen. It's like a min/maxed way to be sleazy without actually exposing yourself.

I don't mind seeing IRL if the vtuber really wants to show it, but if I feel like I'm being manipulated then I'm turned off.

I think you're baiting but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Yuka uses her avatar as a persona, her getting access to do shows in livehouses as she always dreamed of isn't the equivalent of ditching the avatar and going tits out for Biden. She transfered the IP itself to IRL, as its how she presents herself continuously with outfits and hairdos maintaining that identity (the vtuber avatar itself was based on herself, facilitating the conversion), even if she dropped most of traditional vtubing content like streams and karaokes. It's much more nuanced than "ehe, immersion break ;9" thirstposts you see around. She is the exception to the rule, which shouldn't be an exception if there weren't so many whores milking simps in the niche.

Stage fright, agoraphobia or anthropophobia are all issues that can be healed or dealt with to some extent. The choice to do it anonymously is for the extreme cases, people willing to forfeit recognition for opsec or simply love for the craft. In corpo cases, it's mandated as the brand itself will bring profit to the company, not to the talent, even if the talent itself is the important part- this is especially true in the japanese environment, with agencies and producers taking the front row in most outlets for some reason.

The reason Amiya did soldering handcam streams was practical, as previous tinkering attempts were done by just taking photos every other time and doing it with handcam allowed her to get feedback, but it still felt pretty uncomfortable for me even if I know she wasn't doing it for whore reasons
