We're going to be talking about Japanese apartments - the weird, the mundane, our own personal experiences to an extent (she's lived in Japan too). I think where a lot of the disconnect is that while streaming's "easier" than conventional jobs in a lot of ways, it does require you to be at 100% the whole time you're live, it's much harder to do the job well if you're having a bad day. Back when I was doing admin stuff I couldn't tell you how many times I showed up half asleep and in a shit mood, but it didn't matter because it was mostly just retrieving information from a database and emailing it to people, the job got done either way.

Would I have been able to keep an audience engaged for several hours straight in that state, though? Probably not.

Okay, so that's when you drop what you had scheduled and do a comfort game instead. You explain to the audience that you has a said and won't be as high-energy this stream or it might be shorter than usual. Then you let the sympathetic viewers (emphasis on the "symp" part) send in the "hope you feel better soon" donos.

Am I being cynical? I guess, but you get paid and the fans get a stream, so what's the harm?

It's funny how all three major east asian languages have an N word similar:
Niga in Korean
Nigai in Chinese (Bitter)
Nigero in Japanese (Run Away)

"Nigai" is Japanese too, not Chinese, but Chinese (Mandarin) does have a word that sounds like "niga" which is used to fill the dead air while you're thinking, like "um, uh" in English.

Games of the past were made with proper consideration of the hardware available at the time and its limitations, as well as considerations of the then-current market and cultural zeitgeist. Games like DOOM, for example, didn't come about in a vacuum. It was developed with the hardware available at the time, and out of considerations for previous games, to meet the needs of the gaming market at the time.

Modern-day retro-style games are made without consideration of hardware limitations or current trends, optimized far below what the developers of the day had to manage. Someone that makes a DOOM-inspired game hasn't made a retro game, they've just made gaming slop that crudely apes DOOM, wears the tag "retro" the same way a trans person wears the tag of "woman" and fooling no-one.

Retro is what was retro when I was a kid and started gaming, nothing since can become retro and is perpetually contemporary.

This man gets it.

I think I need to reiterate what is retro.

What is retro are things from before my time. Anything during or after my time is not retro.

So things like the PS3, Gamecube, Genesis, or NES are not retro. Things like the Atari 2600 or the Magnavox Odyssey are retro, as they were from before my time.

I don't really agree that streaming is an easy job, at the very least it's not comparable to just sitting down and playing a random game, and I'm saying this as a 9 to 5 worker (though my company is really flexible and I appreciate them for that).

I have never streamed before, but there were a few times in the past where I was live sharing my gameplay to my friends through Discord, and I already felt much more stressed than usual, now imagine that but with hundreds or even thousands of viewers. It may not be physically demanding, but it's definitely mentally taxing. And I haven't even got into many of the non-stream homework you have to do if you are part of an agency.
