Outside of collectors/scalpers nabbing up promo cards, limited runs, first prints, I don't see this having serious presence at (most) LGS tournaments, let alone any serious prizing structure. The TCG will live and die based on people actually playing the game, but they'll always have people lining up for the latest drops on collector value alone, which will turn it into an enthusiast/premium product over the long-term and never truly breach an audience outside of hardcore chuuba supporters.

The original company that first hired the talent will still own the copyright to any character designed for their company - they commissioned and paid for the character to be designed for commercial purposes, and that purchase is going to include the copyright to that model.

Now, if vtubers want to start commissioning models with the same name as their previous character, with extremely similar designs, played by the same person, expressing the same opinions with the same mannerisms, you start to veer into territory where companies might want to start arguing copyright in court, which is a very expensive and time-consuming legal battle that you're going to lose even if you win. I don't know if that's a risk I'd want to take if I were a talent, especially when most talents are pretty happy to just go to a new model.

To be honest, ruling that corpo chuubas can keep their name after they leave would be dumb as fuck and sounds like it would cause all kinds of legal nightmares. I know it is kinda different, but that would be like saying Charles Martinet owned the Mario name because he voiced him for 25 years, but couldn't use the design. I get VTubers are more than just a voice for a character, but splitting up the IP in such a weird way is just retarded. If I were a chuuba, I would rather just change my name and make a visually similar design after leaving a corpo job, like many seem to do.

From what I've seen, most chuubas that leave a corpo and start as an indie worry less about the design (they are attached though) and more about if their fans will follow them or be able to find them.
