There is a farm isolation system/bird kill going on in the States. So Eggs are in shorter supply. Though there's some really dark, open questions about how it's being spread. But, yeah, eggs aren't in great supply. Chicken prices are dropping pretty fast though, lol.

Note that the meal itself (the "Nasi Cakalang Bakar") is more or less normal culinary stuff for indos/south east asians. But to most people, it's still not something you eat with fresh orange slices.
Can't think of anything savory Viets eat with orange slices.

It could be mandarins. Kaela never really specified what sort of orange that she ate with her food other than it's well... orange. (Jeruk in ID is literally "orange") so it could be Mandarin, it could be something else similar to it. I'm sure it's not sunkist though, but I'm not exactly fruit-eating-kind-a-guy to recognize oranges.

My dude, crepes suzette are supposed to have a citrus CREAM SAUCE, and crepes are basically thin pancakes, so the dish is meant to have the consistency of a nice creamy pancake dessert.
Let's throw in your orange slices. Imagine taking a bite of your "crepes Kaela" and while biting into the nice creamy pancakes, the orange slice bursts in your teeth, sending a torrent of orange juice all over your mouth whose acidity instantly obliterates whatever sweetness the cream sauce had, while the stringiness of the fruit instantly turns the crepe into a nasty chewy mess that gets stuck in your teeth.

I don't see what is too gross with orange slices on it. I would just start with the crepes actually being orange flavored too

Tiramisu with oranges sounds kind of interesting, actually.
Honestly it does, tiramisu tends to be too rich imo, a citrus kick could be the key to cut through the sugar and chocolate bomb that it is... though it might conflict with the coffee...
