You're joking but by the concept of the Holy Trinity they're the same.I'm pretty sure the "using the Lord's name in vain" doesn't refer to Christ but instead it refers to God's actual name instead, which means you technically can't use his name in vain since I doubt anyone knows what it's supposed to be.![]()
It has little to do with the words used for the name, though that may be a part of it depending upon interpretation. Too many Christians get all huffed and angry about saying "ohmygod" and then turn around and actually use the name "in vain" because they don't have reading comprehension, and for some, it's easier to try to make a slur out of it than actually confront internal narcissism.
It's the invoking of God for ill purpose, using it for vanity. It's saying "God told me to do something." when he didn't, or saying that one is a righteous person when performing an act that isn't so righteous (narcissists do this, usually), or using the name to curse someone or grift, like the many megachurches built fundamentally on a charismatic grifter. Boomer Catholics have ruined the interpretation and made a slur while they keep on saying it's righteous to beat their wives/husbands or whatever.
Fwiw, if Rev were grifting here (I don't really think he is, it's a strange thing to tweet though) it would be a textbook definition of using it in vain without saying any "name" in an ill manner.
