Todd McFarlane essentially made ALL his business decisions because he hates marvel.
As much as I hate it Epic both as a games studio and the worse games platform then steam was made out of spite and is successful

Businesses made to spite someone else can work (my favourite example is Lamborghini) but if we were to argue that Socks was borne out of hate, who do they hate and why? It seems more to me that Socks saw a successful industry and decided that the only thing wrong with it was that he wasn't making money from it himself.
