I remember OffKai being a shitshow on the whole last year, because they increased the scale of everything compared to the tiny 2022 event without having either the manpower or infrastructure to accommodate it. The connection in the venue wasn't great which caused a lot of events to either have problems or be delayed iirc, and for the main musical performances they had some absolute retard at the mixing desk aimlessly raising and lowering the volume mid-song (Airi getting banned in the Twitch chat for threatening to castrate him was hilarious). I really hope they've got their shit together this time, since having international call-ins happening all throughout the convention is a much more demanding ask than typical con fare.

It's not uncommon for cons to pad out staff numbers with volunteers, but given the vtuber community houses the kind of people who could be a genuine threat to the wellbeing of any idols they might recognise in person I feel there are far more safeguarding concerns to consider than there are for typical anime cons, where the cosplayer groping stuff feels like a massively overexaggerated problem and you can just do performative shit like posting "cosplay is not consent" signs to shut the feminists up. I'm not sure how you'd effectively vet people for a position like this, but there's always going to be a risk (for all parties) in these situations where it's just one individual's word against another's.
