Idk I think this person put in a lot of effort and is clearly very skilled but (unless she's just coping about not getting in which is possible) it does seem like she wasn't cut out for it. She just wanted something to earn money while she aimed to be a game dev, which is what she's seemingly graduating for, but I think it's pretty obvious Holo wants people who are in it for the long haul, not someone who said "Whether corpo or indie, I was planning to eventually stop streaming".
Apologies for necroing this topic, but I think everyone missed some key details, and it’s probably the exact thing Hololive staff are looking for.
Mado, if you read this, you’re more talented than you think and can do so much better to stand out. Stop choosing the easy route it’s what cooked you.
The one thing most people miss is what applications need to pass: ingenuity and creativity.
I’m skipping the post-grad statement where game dev was her ultimate goal and vtubing was just a means for steady income. That’s another strike against her that staff likely sniffed out. Let’s assume Hololive was her dream job.
Singing, dancing, custom animations, OBS skills, and extra supplemental roles are all dime a dozen in Hololive applications. Check her game dev stuff, and you see DEI brainwashing, which probably filtered her out, plus it’s a super limited demo of her skills: AI could pump out that slop. If she had any ingenuity or creativity in her programming, she’d have gone the route of the Holocure dev, creating fully fleshed-out games using Hololive IP or any culturally recognizable IP (including game genre mechanics.)
Demonstrating accolades with results gets the best responses from hiring staff in any job. A shitty visual novel and 2D puzzles aren’t impressive, to say the least. She doesn’t seem to have the creative juices to rise above just copy-pasting someone’s homework without making it obvious. This was my first impression of seeing her games. Insert buzz lightyear toy clones meme here. Surely, there was a more ambitious, grandiose idea in her mind that she threw away for the safe choice she submitted. Holocure Dev is a prime example of good programming talent utilizing holo's IP.
I’m using the Holocure dev as an example, which ties into my next point: Biboo’s audition. While lots of EN girls hinted at their auditions, Biboo’s the only one who spelled it out for the dumbest of the dumb on how to get in. How did Mado miss this? How do other applicants miss this? Who knows, but Biboo did it and got in with 1/1000th of Mado’s streaming hours, 1-trillionth her singing talent, no programming skills, and slightly better-than-average gaming skills. Biboo modded Mori as a final boss in Undertale a game known for tough boss fights and one-shot it under the pressure of audition staff and in front of her idol, Mori. Assuming Mado’s audition process was similar, Biboo cleared the verbals with less talent in every metric except one: her accolades and impressions under the highest of pressure situations.
Demonstration of stated talent with results.
Another example is Reya and her team doing Biboo’s turn-based fight. Reya said the Hololive girls told her to apply to Cover to work for them, either as a VTuber or staff. I bring this up because Mado has it in her to copy something as impressive as what this talented person and her supporters did.
She was so close yet so far. She targeted the right metric but leaned the wrong way on what staff are pressed about: time. She went for a quick 5-minute game that forced staff to play through, instead of showing her talent with a quick hook video (TikTok-brainrot your skills in under 30 seconds) or a PowerPoint with links to video demos for the curious. Yes, a PowerPoint (bake in youtube links in the PP for the investigative staff), not "just" private youtube video with clickable timestamps. Her auditions are good, but not great. None stand out with the talent she has in her bones. If she’d stepped up her creativity and ingenuity just a bit more, she’d have probably passed and gotten in.
Mado definitely has the talent to get into Hololive but swayed critical nuanced decisions the wrong way, and it bit her. She did a lot of good things, but nothing great or impressive to stand out above her competition. If she or anyone else can pass the tough verbal interview questions, the final step staff are almost certainly looking for is uniqueness and creativity through your life's journey up to that point. She set her sights on being just good enough, not the best of the best. She showed determination to get in, but not the grit to be the best. Ambitious personalities who strive to be the best are one of the qualities staff are looking for, among all the other stuff.
Regardless of what you think of the girls which have made it in, they all share the same ambitions and acceling in one of the 4 categories: Gaming, Art, Yapping, Singing. New talents should strive to use their creative abilities to max out 1 of these 4 categories in their application. Demontrate your capabilities, but show off your maxed stat as your prime selling point in your audition. Credit: Cuba for the acronym.
Also as a freebee if anyone applying to holo and wants to pander to one staff member, one of the girls, i won't name who, mentioned that simply seeing the talent eat and enjoy a bowl of ramen in their audition video was enough to get approval.
And finally, I believe if anyone has the talent to get into Holo today, they have the talent to succeed as an indie, the individual's focus should be putting efforts into discoverability above all else.
Again sorry, late to the party and necro'ing a topic.
Ok back to lurking, bye bye.
