What you don't understand is that ignoring these people does not make them go away.

They have real, tangible power and influence. They actively seek more power, and they get that power because they are ignored by people who are in positions to gatekeep and push back on them. Once they have power, they seek to gain more. They are never, ever satisfied.

There's a gag in Discworld about homeless beggars who are filthy and disgusting to the point nobody wants to be around them. They have no career prospects and no employers will even come near them. So how do they earn money? By getting paid to not be where other people are.

People like Ana Valens are like that. They are smear merchants. Their trade is reputational destruction and life ruination. Everyone is aware of this, especially sponsors, business partners and other public figures. When they target someone, it does not matter if their accusations are absurd. It does not matter if they're lying. It does not matter if they make fools of themselves. What matters is that it creates an association between them and their target.

If revolting beggars squat outside an elegant manor house, they will lower the property value and desirability of the area even if they do nothing to materially affect the owner's business deals or relationships. People will start avoiding him. The stink they leave will cling to his expensive clothes, and his standing in the community will degrade. A digital version of this is exactly what Ana Valens does. Ignoring them does not make them go away, it gives them power and license to keep doing what they are doing.

Ana is a symptom of a much larger problem. Vtubers influence other vtubers. They tell each other who to associate with and who not to associate with. They maintain blacklists of vtubers who have been deemed 'brand risks' or who hold the wrong political values.

Most vtubers are young left-leaning women. They are extremely vulnerable to this kind of influence. They will listen when their peers tell them to curate their communities and what topics they should and shouldn't allow on their streams. That in turn influences the content they create, the games they play and the friends they keep.

I have similar sentiments. Though replace Hololive with Phase Connect. I know that Pippa's name is usually dragged around when it comes to stuff like this, but I really want this conflict to be confined to just the Kirsche circle. It's selfish of me to wish it so, I just don't want to see battle lines be drawn over in Phase Connect.
