>Brave merges corpos
>One of the corpos involved is Palette Project which hadn't yet updated to the new standard format
>"Eh okay let's get it out of the way now I guess"
>Reviewing debut dates of all of the talents because those are included now
>Read "On 29 December, it was announced that Kamina Kohane and Eko Amagasaki will be joining Palette Project."
>"Joining"? That sounds weird...
>Announcement post on website sounds even more sus: "This is Amegasaki-chan, released by Avatar2.0. She has been dreaming of becoming an idol since her debut. I was surprised when she came to the audition." (Machine TL, which is important because it confused me at the time and lead to 2+ hours of pointless searching when the answer was right below my nose)
>Look these two up
>Kamina is clean, she has no visible activity so she was probably debuted by Palette themselves...
>Look into Eko
>Holy fucking shit she's an invader... that was not labeled as such in the chart
>AUTISM INTENSIFIES
>Research
>More research into weird japanese idol agencies and music labels
>Tied to some company called "Twin Planet Entertainment" but she doesn't appear on their site
>Wayback Machine fails me
>Cannot find her origin
>Go back on her twitter timeline until twitter fucking breaks and refuses to work
>Fuck you Elon
>Go to her channel and begin reading the descriptions on her oldest streams to find out when exactly she debuted
>No debut, only a one year anniversary with no date of debut
>Look for her first stream under Palette
>Randomly find a name tied to her in the description that I didn't pay attention to before: "Avatar 2.0"
>Seen it before during research but thought it was just referring to... a new avatar of hers at the time of joining palette or whatever
>Look it up
>Holy fuck it's a vtubing project, and it's actually one of the oldest fucking pseudo-agencies out there dating back to 2018...
>The chart gains new info

My evening was certainly eventful.

STATE OF THE CHARTS UPDATE:
Idk why but this time around I have been feeling insanely overwhelmed by this for whatever reason, I kinda want it to be more perfect than ever but that requires a bunch of extra work. I can't just shit it out in an unfinished state like with V.1, I keep finding new things I wanna add now before I seal the bow on it and ship it but it has gotten to a scope-creep-y degree that bothers me for whatever reason. I keep having to redo stuff I already put down to add new disclaimers or details and Neoporte/Globie/VSPO have sat unfinished for weeks.

The main body of Brave 3.0 is shaping up though, even with all of the various format and design changes and with the brossom crop of agencies occupying a massive chunk of space in the bottom-center of the thing. In part all of this messing around is so that the chart "foundations" as it were are perfect enough that I won't be compelled to make some massive format change in the near future (at least a year), in preparation for starting to put the charts together, if I don't get it right before that then I'll start having to disassemble the big mess of charts to fix/tune up each one individually and that's something I don't wanna do.

I also hope to not have to update Brave in like 6 months, though I myself admit that is a massive pile of cope. I do feel a big impulse to start getting into other corpos, 774 was pretty fun to do because I was getting into a corpo I knew nothing about and it felt exciting to put all of this disparate knowledge together into something easy-ish to digest, specially for westoids that often aren't privy to japanese corpo shenanigans.

You're supposed to do 180 hrs/week in billables, not 180 hrs/week spent on personal projects.

Just gonna archive this one here because I've been tracking it all afternoon, date in which VSPO got its name and branding, Vtuber wiki is incorrect in saying it was called "0.2 Second story" that was just a multimedia project, the actual agency was just referred to as "LVG management".

Adding debut dates to everything has probably been the best/worst decision I had.

For one it has essentially forced me to do extra research on every vtuber I add, which has led me to discover 4 different cases in which I had an invader-type vtuber and it had not been properly labeled. And now 2 different cases in which I had a company transfer that was not reflected in the chart.

On the bad side it also adds even more work and bloat to the chart, so it's good that I decided to not do arrows for every single invader type debut, that would be unmanageable. And now I have gotten submerged in the thai vtuber market, which exists for whatever reason and it makes me unreasonably mad.

I think dates are pretty important though, particularly if in the future we need to refer back to one of these to find patterns of weird behavior by a corpo.

Dates are just debut/graduation, but having the debut dates along with grads does allow you to calculate how long the talent lasted there, it also shows some interesting things like some talents pre-dating companies so they couldn't have possibly debuted under them.

The charts aren't really meant to show drama or yabs, since I try to add as little text as possible. They're meant to be visual aids primarily, so that you can just pop it open and scan it for talents you want to quickly trace back to whoever owns them. Or look for a corpo and see everything it currently owns or owned in the past. Drama can mostly be gleaned indirectly. If you see "terminated" under any greyed-out talent's info box then you can be sure something went down.

I think the best use for these new debut dates is for making timelines, simply plop everything down by date and you'll get a pretty good idea of how the industry has evolved in the last half-decade.

stuff.png

Some progress, took almost the entirety of this week off so only now redid some stuff. Square is taking shape again...
Still got to finish Neoporte, update some of the defunct shit and Aogiri (which should honestly not even go in this chart, but I gotta really figure out my policies on that) apart from that we are basically 90% done.

I checked out Folia and Tiny Band Story again now that I am a lot more experienced with researching these kinds of things, and while Tiny Band seems to have been some weird project, Folia definitely seems like it involved vtubers of some form or another, I thought I wasn't going to be able to confirm it because all of their accounts have been scrubbed (thing lasted like 3 months and was right after the gamebu shit went down so it was not popular at all), but by the grace of the gods I found this one dude who re-uploaded a bunch of the streams of one of these girls are yeah, they definitely count as chuubas, though the rigging and general demeanor of the girls are so bad and outdated it makes me cringe.

Also a PRtimes article, because that site drops an article for literally anything:

aND APpaRENtLY OnE oF THe GIrLs WaS alSO PaRt of YEt ANoTHer OLD ASS FUCKING VTUBER PROJECT FROM 20 FUCKING 19 BECAUSE YES WE ARE DELVING THAT DEEP HERE IN CHART LAND

ONE DISCOVERY TURNS INTO 5!

Put a pin on that, the characters look completely different and I think the site claiming this is just wrong or confused because both characters have the exact same name and last name, so I'll leave it out for now, enough bullshit as it is. Also both characters were active at the same time (summer-winter 2019)

Luckily I took this long because apparently Sakuragi Miria of Gamebu just announced her graduation from Highway Star today, finally putting an end to Gamebu's drama and legacy of nearly 7 years.

It's kinda sad that one of the most popular vtubers of her time is fucking off and few will even give a shit or notice.
