It's kind of shocking how little I've seen the Switch 2 come up, I thought my timeline would be flooded with posts about it.\

Nintendo Switch 1 launch prices:

A $500 console means this Nintendo is actually competing with the PS5, since you can buy a PS5 bundle for around the same price. Except the PS5 has the advantage of having several years worth of video game releases to its name (even if the first-party releases have largely been underwhelming). I think the Nintendo Switch 1 made a case for itself over other consoles by being a lot cheaper than a PS5, but this Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have that same advantage.

This is going to be a diehard Nintendo fans-only console, I think.

Happy Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma launch day! Is it better than Rune Factory 5? In some ways, yes, in other ways, no! It's simultaneously a simplification of the Rune Factory formula, while also an improvement over the previous game, so I'm slightly worried for Rune Factory 6! Sure, it's a good game on its own, but don't go rushing to buy it if you're content with Rune Factory 4 or 3 - unless you're desperate for a Switch 2 launch title!



Also, the Day One Deluxe DLC locks two of the romance routes behind it, with the inflated cost due to various character costumes, so the "true" cost of the game is $70 on launch - or $80 if you're buying the Switch 2 version!



Surely, the Deluxe Edition would include *all* of the costumes, right? Wrong. Here's the DLC for the Bachelorettes to receive Rune Factory 4 costumes, sold separately!

Fo'real though, play Lumines, you won't regret it, it's one of the best devs out there pushing to make games with great vibes that you can just tune out of the real world. If there's any weight to the "immersion" buzzword, they pulled it. Tetris Effect is also pretty good, still Lumines is better IMHO.

PS3. It's the PS3 vs the PS2, with almost exactly the same dynamic. The Wii U was confusing, which was the big problem. This is a clear & obvious successor platform. The issue is that they've sold 150 million Switch 1s and will probably still sell another 20 million of them. The Switch 2 will sell at least 75 million units in its lifetime, and likely 25-30 million in year 1. It's just those long-tail sales are going to be very slow, especially in less economically dynamic areas of the world.

The issue is the more expensive the console, the less sales you get outside of the most dynamic economies, and a lot of those are struggling right now. Nintendo hopes it'll be different in 5 years, but you can never know. The other bit is they've all but killed their secondary markets, so they'll keep losing a lot of secondary PR/sales drivers from the shared cartridge experience.

So over the past day, people on r/HalfLife have been tracking the yacht that Gabe Newell lives on (1, 2, 3).


The yacht is usually stationed off New Zealand, but right now it is actually off the coast of California and is currently headed for San Diego. This means that Gabe Newell has very likely traveled to California, for reasons currently unknown.


Obviously, SummerGamesFest is today, and is held in LA. I'm also pretty sure that Valve does owe Keighley a showing after they reneged on showing HL:A at TGA 2019.

I do not mean to huff copium, but that's a rather funny coincidence. Of course, there are realistically a whole bunch of reasons why a billionare might do a trip to California, but this timing sure is funny. This could feasibly be the happening though, because if Gabe isn't on the yacht right now, it is very plausible that he may currently actually be on land, and will just meet up with the boat again tomorrow at the San Diego port once he's done with doing what he needs to here today.

After watching this one and fully reading the patch notes i can cay with very cautious optimism that we are, in fact, back.
Most new additions seem really good, a lot of the changes to existing stuff are exactly what's needed(what do you meeeean i can now run betrayal without it feeling like a constant sunk-cost fallacy), they obviously can't get to everything in one go(there's like half a dozen mechanics in dire need of rework at any given time in this game), but i'm quite happy with the stuff we did get. Kinda scared of the announced-but-not-yet-detailed Sanctum nerf, i rather enjoyed Sanctum, but i guess it was inevitable.

The character\skill portion of the update seems half-baked, but they apparently promised that October patch will be a much larger balance-focused update, so i'm willing to let it go. With all the new additions, player power should be through the fucking roof anyway.

Oh, and speaking of, what a fantastic way to admit that T17s were a fucking mistake - introduce a new endgame juicing mechanic that specifically only scales to T16s. Morons.

Man, sure am glad my favorite game series doesn't do this kind of shit...

By the way, that $69.99 pack, the one that costs more than the game itself, is all consumables. All of which you can get in-game, though maybe a few items from it in limited quantity, but you certainly don't need more than what you get in-game to beat the game.

Better than CAPCOM at least, that sells you unique mechanics/skips as MTX. I think making the skill-issued pay to win is based, it's their dishonor to hold, it stops being funny when there's exclusive content behind those paywalls.
