For all of the criticism that Doom Dark Ages is going to justifiably get, it still is more of a videogame than 99.9% of the drivel that triple-A studios are defecating right now. Doesn't mean I like it, I'm only saying what's what.
what exactly is the issue with dark ages? i thought all the stupid with eternal was pure lore and who cares about lore in a doom game.

If you though the combat was annoying before, wait until you get a load of the new and improved rock-paper-scissors minigames for shooting mooks in this doom.

I know some people that appreciated Eternal's design but really didn't like playing it. They're really hyped for Dark Ages. It looks good, plays well and you can basically tweak your experience to how you like to play Doom with little issue.

That said, why did Marty have to have a weird crashout with Mick? We were denied a sound track for the ages. A slower game with more of a tank feel? We'd have gotten a Cummins Turbodiesel and a Chevy Small Block V8 as instruments.

You can play it like Just Cause and grapple hook + shotgun/rocket everything.

I did say the only complaint i had was the lore.

Skill issue.

from what i know it was Zenimax doing shady bullshit that caused mick to quit essentially giving mick the runaround and refusing to pay him and then tossing him under the bus when people didn't like the soundtrack the other guy composed.

I LOVE GIMMICKS
I LOVE GIMMICKS
I LOVE GIMMICKS
I HATE VIDEOGAMES THAT JUST LET YOU PLAY THE GAME

also both Andrew Hulshult and these new guys' OSTs were better than Mick sticking his dick in a printer

I also hate gimmicks but its also how games force you to engage honestly with the mechanics. very easy to screw up.

I think the Arham Series is the worst example of gimmick enemies.

the whole focus is on this free flow combat system miss an enemy your combo resets that's mostly fine with the semi aggressive homing you have

Now let's add enemies that PUNISH YOU FOR HITTING THEM Thugs/Giants are mostly fine the assholes with shockvests or whatever the fuck it is can die in a fire...shield guys too.

Edit: as a counter example. Hades. god I REALLY WANT TO HATE ARMOR. I can't it's annoying sometimes but its pretty fair and balanced only when im building stupid niche gimmick shit does it feel punishing and that's entirely on me.

Seriously I get BFG Division and such are good but At Dooms Gate is just leagues above it it's not even close.
It's funny to see that almost ten years later, whenever someone on social media goes "Bro, the Doom 2016 soundtrack is fucking fire you gotta listen to this shit" they either post BFG Division, Rip & Tear, or the VEGA Core music. Cause the game has no other good songs.

Really? because i remember listening to the whole thing on loop till some other "big game with good music" came out? while i cant name the tracks i still say it was all good.

It's not rose tinted glasses; older game music was better.

The combination of more personal touches - usually one guy, or a small group, working with a small dev studio of four to thirty people - and the limitations at the time requiring the composers to get creative in order to make the music as distinct and memorable as possible resulted in much better music than today, where they're being made for large studios owned by corporations and have access to all manners of instrumentation with no technical limitations.

Limitations are vital to creativity. Only a handful of people in any creative field actually make good use of no limits; most need limits to produce anything worthwhile.

I also think that older games were forced to have a clearer melody. I can remember most tracks from FFVII extremely well, but anything from the remake that isn't based on the original tracks I have a vague sense of if I remember it at all.
