Wow, this is not the Gunlance that I used to know before. I hope Lance could get some SWAG move.

To be honest, the Monster Hunter: Wild should be called Monster Hunter: Ass-Drilling because there are so many Ass-Drilling Moveset in the new weapons :dokiSmug:

Two Frontier moves, Sideshelling and spread. There's also Perfect Guard like Lance now, so we can hope for Reflect Lance?
In Frontier there's a skill named Reflect that as the name implies, reflects damage to the monster when you block, and Reflect Lance was exceptional against multihit moves when using the Extreme Guard (I forgot the proper name).

Gunlance my beloved. Lots to like here though it hasn't showed off certain parts of the moveset.
The fluidity of animations and potential combos here is probably the biggest upgrade. Coming from World, the weapon can be glacial, and awkward to get to the attacks you want. Chaining hops into big sweeping attacks and shell bursts will do a lot to keep you dancing around the monster and fits the weapon as a super in-your-face style. That little shimmy the hunter does on guards looks like an Adept Guard which is pretty interesting and a solid upgrade to have on your base kit, as well as a couple of guard-points or maybe a perfect guard mechanic which are a similar Godsend for the weapon to the upgraded animations. Gunlance being perhaps the worst guarding weapon in practice despite being the only other (proper) big shield weapon has been a major point of contention for me for a while.
Didn't expect the drill mode, but hey it fits the wacky aesthetic I guess and Capcom is remembering it's a weapon with a fair bit of tech built-in I guess. Shells seem to have levels of charge now when firing them too.

Notably we didn't see any reloading animations here. I'd been hoping for Guard Reloading to take over as the default option because of how much it helped the weapon function in Rise, but if they're going to add better guarding options baseline then we might see the usual Quick Reload for functionality. Also no Blast Dashing, even in a reduced form, is depressing if somewhat expected.

Edit: Actually there is one reload animation: 54 seconds in the hunter fires a wyrmstake, then does what might be a guard reload and goes into an attack with a second wyrmstake. That's an interesting difference - before they've designed it to be used as a sort of psuedo-finisher.

I have nothing else to add that hasn't already been stated, but for what is probably the basic ass starting gunlance it looks pretty kino :shubaIapprob:

I guess Gaiden and 8's Kiryu misery porn arc was the franchise derailing, this is just the train's septic tank exploding.

I really hope MonHun Wilds' "Focus Mode" is a "major damage to wounds, shit damage normally" mode with a meter.
I just really don't like the idea of Great Sword being able to do a 180 charge slash.

If anyone wants to watch the movie Yakuza is quasi-based on, it's called Battles without Honor and Humanity.

I'm guessing it is a much better time than this show is going to be.

It also inspired a good track in Kill Bill:

BWH&H was originally a magazine article series (which in turn was based on a memoir).

I've seen the first two a long time ago, and they're a bit drier than you might be expecting based on the Yakuza franchise or the song.

Depersonalization 1.0 has released, just in time for Halloween playthroughs 1-2 months from now (which will most likely have more bugfixes by then as well). Good for chuubas infested with Project Moon brainrot, and the modding community will almost assuredly follow suit:

Who would have guessed that infesting Call of Cthulhu with Anime would make for a killer end-product? And since this is one of the games I'm taking inspiration for my first small monster-taming project (the detective-horror game), I will continue shilling it to the dark corners of the earth.

Does this have a proper English translation, yet? I was interested in it, but saw that the English translation was absolute shit.

Coming up in a few days (August 5th) is Fields of Mistria, which I learned from Mori's interest in the game during development. It's still going to be an early access release, so unless there are major enough issues with launch, it will most likely sit in my library until 1.0 like most of these other early-access farming games. Honestly, if Mori hadn't taken interest, I wouldn't have either, so if they don't partner with the Pink Woman then the developers might have the biggest of missed chances on their hands.

I got this game today and I've been really enjoying it so far (put in eight hours and plan to put in a lot more). If you like your harvest moon-derived farming sims, I'd recommend it.
  • Does a good job at introducing many of the characters of the town in memorable ways. The number of townspeople also feels right, there aren't too many that you're not going to remember them but there's enough to have interesting interactions with and feel like a really small town.
  • Really nice aesthetic style to the game, and I like the character designs
  • I like the mission structure the game gives you, doing various tasks helps you build your own reputation and the reputation of the town itself, and you get rewards and occasionally to see the town grow
  • There's five marriage candidates for each gender. I'll let someone else speak on the candidates for marrying men, but I felt that there were some good options for the women you can choose to marry.
  • Combat's okay. Going to want better gear and to earn some offensive spells to see how I like them, but I know they exist and can work towards them, at least.
  • Progression for getting better gear seems really well-done so far - not too grindy to get upgrades, but not too quick either.
There's nothing particularly groundbreaking or innovative here, but it's all really well-done with a really nice aesthetic. Sometimes that's more than enough.

My one complaint is that it's currently crashing about every two hours or so, but you can save whenever you're in your home, and it's still early access, so I'm hoping to see that fixed in the future.

I feel like the first Yakuza game (not the Kiwami version) was closest to those movies. As the series progressed it became it's own thing.

It's quite popular to do that in Japan. Oh, Cthulhu even has a few vTubers.

So I gave MHW a try. Never played a MonHun and never even watched a stream of it. Very mixed feelings so far. Just a colossal overload of tutorial menus constantly for the first 1-2 hours, which honestly is whatever to me. Took the time to try out a bunch of the weapon types, kinda surprised how deep some are. Been messing around with Switch Axe and Insect Glaive. Controls are super fucking awful though, especially after coming off the heels of Elden Ring. It's a 2018 game but it plays like a 2006 game.

This was my impression of the UI.

Also the forced "alright, you did the objective, you have 1min to collect your shit before you auto-leave" is super gay.

Are you having fun sliding down a 9° decline, while perfectly running down a 8°59' one, but your character always jumps off of a 9°1' decline? Do you like hitting the run button and essentially gambling which of those three actions your character will perform?

After trying to maneuver the controls, I'm starting to miss the Promised Consort Radahn fight.

World was their first attempt at going from a series that had been on the 3DS only since 2010 and looked like this:

So I tend to cut it a little slack. It was the team's first major attempt at going full 3D on a mainline console so it definitely suffered growing pains. The overloaded menu structure was absolutely one of the worst contenders of that.

Going from World to their newer game Rise/Sunbreak, there are some marked improvements in the overall game structure. But also its own set of complains with some new mechanics that really didn't end up being as good as they'd hoped.
