Vice has libel insurance, that's certain. You can't exist as a media outlet without libel insurance.
So the verdict that matters most for them is if the insurance thinks Vice violated their policy and decides they won't pay out. If they do pay out, whatever happens in court is inconsequential to Vice.
The one with the financial pressure will be Kirsche. She has to win to make it worth it, which isn't guaranteed. Vice in the meanwhile has their court costs paid and the insurance will cover the damages if they lose.

VICE's coverage of Kirsche is absolutely actionable defamation, and I'm certain that if it came to it, her fans would be able to crowdfund any and all legal costs she faced immediately. Just something to think about.

I'd prefer her not have to shed her anonymity to defend herself through legal means, but a very public and costly loss on VICE's part would set an excellent precedent in scaring media outlets into doing a better job of vetting their reporters, rather than letting anyone with an axe to grind use their publication as a platform to post libel.

Yeah, it'd be a tough fight. Currently where it stands I don't think there's much of an argument that Kirsche has suffered financially from all of this, what with all the support she's getting from most of the fanbase, so if that's required to be part of the case it's a non-starter (she lost the Crime Boss deal but by her own words she was making pennies from that anyway - were they planning to cut her a fat check to use her likeness in the game?). And Vice might be able to argue that everyone knows they're not a credible news source at this point and the whole article should be taken as opinion or speculation. On the whole, maybe it's a threat worth making, but I don't think neither Vice nor Krische expect her to actually follow through on it.

Unfortunately Kirsche while I think has a solid case due to the fuckery VICE pulled has more to lose. Namely a lawsuit will most likely fully dox her. I know you can file it under a John/Jane Doe alias but maintaining that in a drawn out legal fight is not good odds.
