I fucking hate the shorts algorithm, maaannnn. My karaoke streams are full of shitters and zoomers.
It sucks for making clips too. You can either make a short that gets less then 1/2 the views as a clip because clip watchers don't want to watch shorts, or you make a really deformed looking clip that makes people think know you're on drugs.

I mean, there is way more but basically Purrson had a stream that was based off his comment saved here

And it led to a discussion that I feel like from backreading at least, lasted about 602 hours

Yeah that is deserving of a FATWA, there is a limit to how contrarian one can be before they are sentenced to be stoned to death

Just purely statistically, classic literature had innumerably less garbage, because there were more illiterate people, and not every retard who got hit by a car or diddled a child could write a memoir.
Pippa's actually right about survivorship bias. For example, we laud George Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm as essential classic fiction, but Orwell actually wrote six novels, three non-fiction books, a play, four scripts, five journals, short stories, and has had the articles he's written compiled into multiple books. However, we've just taken "Animal Farm" and "1984", said "these are classic books" and the rest of his written work we largely ignore. Seems like survivorship bias to me.

Oh yeah, there's absolutely survivorship bias, but there were also just less books written in general before, so I'm still the best kind of right. Technically right.

Bad example seeing as you already listed 2 absolute immortal classics from just one guy, on top of which his other material is pure gold as well. A lot of his best work was just in newspaper articles.
With anime you get about 50 shows a season and almost all of it is forgettable trash nobody remembers even a year later. Of the "cherries" that get picked, most of those will also be forgotten before too long. And a tiny handful in a given year will live on through generations. And now anime, like Hollywood, is dipping back into the well of those classics (ruining their memory in the process).
The written word has existed for so much longer and has been a thing in so many more places that there is no useful comparison to be made. More good English novels have been forgotten than there exists good film media. In another couple thousand years, assuming books continue to die off, we could try to make a valid comparison.
It's not that only some of Orwell's material survived (it's all survived and is revered) it's that you can only shove so much into a school year. It's prioritization.

"The Road to Wigan Pier" still has some traction, largely because of Orwell's snarky description of socialist manners and mores (which are surprisingly consistent to this day!), e.g.:
“The mere words “Socialism” and “Communism” draw towards them with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, “Nature Cure” quack, pacifist, and feminist in England. . . . The food-crank is by definition a person willing to cut himself off from human society in hopes of adding five years on to the life of his carcase; that is, a person out of touch with common humanity.”

Let's try looking at this at a different angle.

In 1907, there were 9,260 books published in the USA (here). So, for the years 1901-1910, let's say 90k books were published. Our list of classic fiction for that period is heavily curated from that, and you would be lucky to find ten books in that period that are considered "classic" fiction. That's a hit rate of about 1 in 10,000 books.

In 2023, there were somewhere between half and one million books published (4 million if you include self-published). Even if you wanted to argue that overall quality has declined because the barrier to publishing is lower and our ratio of "classic" fiction to everything else is going to be much larger, the sheer amount of books that are on offer means there's going to be some books that one day will enter into the classic fiction oeuvre.

Since Pippa doesn't know how to announce things, I'm using Lumi's schedule to find out that the Lumi, Pippa, Lia, and Filian collab is on in just over two hours:

I'd expect the lameness to come from CaH itself, when Kaneko "I wore out my N key on my keyboard" Lumi is the tamest person in the collab

Why would you need "offensive" jokes when you could have cards like "big black cock" and other totally hilarious sex jokes?

I'm sure they'll make it funny/entertaining in their own way, at least. Though, I'll end up missing the first half hour or so.

Hopefully this crew will fix that in their own way.
I think Jewmi is too much of a Stacey to let Pippa and Fillian have their fun joking about dancing Israelis and dead Palestinian children or whatever the fuck CAH has on its dumb cards.

The fun is watching the girls flip out, not that the game is actually entertaining. You know...like with every stream.

This... does not sound like the Lumi I've seen. Whenever I tune in, especially when she collabs with Pippa, she's more dangerous than Pippa.
