It sucks for making clips too. You can either make a short that gets less then 1/2 the views as a clip because clip watchers don't want to watch shorts, or you make a really deformed looking clip that makes people think know you're on drugs.

Just purely statistically, classic literature had innumerably less garbage, because there were more illiterate people, and not every retard who got hit by a car or diddled a child could write a memoir.

Pippa's actually right about survivorship bias. For example, we laud George Orwell's 1984 and Animal Farm as essential classic fiction, but Orwell actually wrote six novels, three non-fiction books, a play, four scripts, five journals, short stories, and has had the articles he's written compiled into multiple books. However, we've just taken "Animal Farm" and "1984", said "these are classic books" and the rest of his written work we largely ignore. Seems like survivorship bias to me.
