Both can be true at once, Pippa.
Most actions of most people can be done for their self-benefit while also having them be completely convinced that it is not the case/unaware that that is the case.
Aka, people don't think about it.
Not like you do all the time you overthinking fucker.

Idk if Pippa is going that far, just that in this instance she wants Andrew to answer, so she pushed it. Probably didn't mean anything bad about it but definitely went against what he just asked her to do in giving him time to deal with Ashley.
It's absolutely this, Andrew clearly wanted to be the one to engage the telling Ashley, but going by Julia's doubting he'd tell Ashley made it clear she knows Andrew is a pushover especially when it comes to his sister. This is her basically trying to push the issue because she has no faith Andrew would actually do it.

Nah I get it probably too well, this explanation is a lot better than her last attempt at the whole transactional relationships talk. There is a reason people do anything, people help people for plenty of reasons but no one does something for no reason at all past a certain age.

When Pippa talks about the whole ulterior motives for complimenting her shoes, she's acting a lot like those gangstalking people.

And she might just have been correct, we have no idea how that conversation would play out if Julia didn't get Ashley in the mood.

Low empathy can't explain this, gotta be malfunctioning mirror neurons at this point.

Pippa just has a transactional view of interactions, in a different time she'd be a new age Ayn Rand.

Most people don't actually think over most things they do, the way i personally see it. Like, there are motives, sure, but mostly they stay in the subconscious.

I had a similar thing to the shoe thing a couple weeks ago when someone complimented my shirt that was... a plain single-color shirt that was a wrinkled mess and doesn't fit right because I missed my alarm and didn't have anything else.

I still didn't assume they were being mean-spirited, "making fun of it" was bottom of the list. Stop being schizo, they were probably just reading a self-help book or something and they were the ones feeling anxious if the shoes really weren't that great. :icanfixher:

I just think she's analyzing things most people take for granted with too much detail. For an example, do you hold open the door for people when you go places? Even strangers? Do you do it because its a nice thing to do? Why do you care about being nice? Cause you don't want to be an asshole or it makes you feel good about yourself on some level? That kinda line of logic. It makes sense but most people just assume that without diving into it

Pretty much

I get where Pippa is coming from. When I read books I like to read each word specifically, but I can gloss the page without absorbing the information quite as much, it's a difference of ingesting each word and ingesting the page if that makes sense.

Ayn Rand was a good woman.

Now that, that's something else. Idk if she said as much last time we had the internal monolog chat but thinking she needs to "talk silently" to think in her head is... a lot.

She pictures words in her mind. She sees words. Madness.

I have to say, this guy is much smarter(aka subtler) than Ashley's Entity.

Probably cause he wants more from Andy than Ashley's entity wanting her to be a soul collector tool with the whole "You've not hatched yet?" line
