Nah, Chio deserves a shot and I'll be happy if she got in. Her voice isn't conventionally cute, but it grows on you, like Pippa. She flashed her face at least once on handcam but I don't recall if it was clear enough to declare her white or not-Chinese.

The timeline is confusing if that were the case, though. The new Invaders were announced 12/10/24~ at the Vtuber awards half-time show. Not-Chio's first tweet was on 12/21/24 on the new account, meaning the account was not used prior to the animated Invaders teaser, but may have been created prior, I don't know if you can check exact account creation dates?

It was also created and used before any of the talents at Pixel-Link were told about the closure. This fact was also not public until February or so, so I'm also not sure Phase would know about something like that. Yes, she could have been doing it anyway and it was unfortunate coincidence, however...

Pixel-Link told its talents about the closure on or around 12/22/24, after the teaser. We saw a frog in that trailer, meaning it's not a post-mortem kidnapping. Not-Chio started fundraising immediately for a new model. Why would Chio be in a position where she needs to fundraise her own model upon the sudden news if she were already gearing up to join as an Invader? These things are likely done fairly far in advance. Was becoming an Invader, in a process already set in motion, contingent upon raising all of her own funds or the deal being dumped entirely after marketing had begun? That wouldn't make sense.

All this and I'm probably wrong anyway because fuck business logic, says Fishman, that's why.

Anyways, Jelly's comment about the new invaders being "huge and more experienced than I am" is certainly interesting. She herself is a 4view who has a 4+ year Vtubing history, there really aren't that many others in the sphere who beat her in either size or experience nowadays.
This isn't the first time she's talked about them like this either, she's expressed being 'too scared to talk them because how cool they are' before. I wonder how much of all she's said is just her gassing them up? What could Phase even offer such a person to convince them to join?

Pixel Link's drama didn't start until well after the auditions closed in October didn't it? I remember hearing whispers of bad things starting in late December. I'd say it would probably be fairly unlikely to be anyone from PixelLink or V&U given the timing, unless they applied before any of their respective dramas even occurred to monkey branch.
I imagined a few ex-Prism and kawaii members would apply but I don't know if any of them meet Jelly's insane criteria. Except maybe Nene. But the thought of Nene and Clara in the same agency is about as outlandish as Lumi and Menace.

I'm a bit bored with the mocking of Christianity - you haven't said or done anything that hasn't been done a million times before and you're not as clever as you think you are, not to mention how tiresome it is that no other religion gets singled out like this. I get why people don't mock other religions - Islam and Judaism are much riskier to mock, and other religions that aren't Christianity in some form are socially irrelevant to both the person doing the mocking and the people they're presenting this mockery to.

I'm not going to get up in arms against Inis though, it's just a part of the edgy atheism phase most non-believers go through before they chill out to a more casual non-theistic or agnostic view of religion and God. Give it a year or two and Inis will probably cringe about her behaviour on her Easter stream.

Phase is at a point where it's a recognisable enough brand for even the bigger names to give it consideration, while also striking a decent balance between lax rules and a respectable public image. It has enough of its own identity now that I fully expect them to be getting tons of applications from people who specifically want to be in Phase rather than in the earlier days where it was just a backup option for applicants who got rejected from Hololive.

Not much to say and in retrospect I almost feel bad for making the comparison. Clara was Hana Flores in kawaii Gen 1. Graduated after only a couple of months. Only rrats as to why, most popular is that she was led to believe management could get her a visa and bailed out when they couldn't. Fast forward 2 years later and Nene is doing an anniversary stream and going over her fanart before realizing someone submitted a very high effort piece of Hana, which she snaps at and berates the viewer for being inappropriate. Hana's channel, which was still up with her VoDs, was wiped without notice following the stream.

In more concrete terms, here's what I think Phase offers over other reputable agencies:
- Turnover is extremely low compared to other agencies. This tells me that work culture is good - it's highly likely that talents enjoy their work, aren't unduly stressed, goals set for talents aren't unreasonable, talents get along well with other talents, management and the CEO, and so forth.
- Idol activities are optional, which would suit talents who want to do idol stuff, but don't want the pace of it dictated to them and would prefer to do it on their own terms.
Hololive, as I understand it, mandates times that talents have to do idol stuff, which is a pretty big imposition, while other companies might not offer idol opportunities at all.
- There are pretty lax rules on stuff like what games can be streamed. You don't need permissions, which would suit streamers that play vintage games, and roms seem to be okay too. There seems to be relatively few restrictions in terms of content and stream topics too.
- From all accounts, Fishman is pretty generous towards talents - he gives out lots of free merch, pays for travel and food and so forth.
- Multiple talents are able to make a living solely streaming for Phase Connect, even talents that live in Western countries that can't take advantage of poor exchange rates, so money between donations, subs, and merchandise is decent if you're willing to put the work in to grow your channel.

There's obviously upsides to other companies, but I think Phase makes a pretty good case for itself for talents that want to be part of a corpo.
