At least a handful of these girls have been known in the community for a while. Phase have regularly offered paid work to people who make fan creations (for better and for worse) since the early days, but that doesn't fit seething 2view #664670's victim complex.
Gumbun has a really good point about the costuming. Vtuber models are very specific in their outfit design and you can't just get the outfit off a walmart shelf. Think of what would go into making a costume - you need a wig you've modified and coloured, to source the right accessories, and a bespoke outfit that you need will need to extensively modify, if not make from scratch, which you're going to have to pick materials and colours for and so forth. That's a lot of time and effort and research to get right, which would be one of the reasons why Sakana had to give three months notice for this to happen. This isn't something you can just have a random e-grifter do, there's a lot of work to get this all to happen.
Terrible is a subjective assesment.
Compare how she captures Sakana's realization that he's feeding his army of adoptive menheras and there's no restroom at the warehouse, to this slop:

The word "grifter", like most internet buzzwords, has pretty much lost most of its meaning and can nowadays often boil down to "earning money while doing things".
Like using Gumbun as an example, she did, obviously, use that tiny bit of notoriety that came with being "that cute Eimi cosplayer" to her advantage, but i'm pretty certain that she is a genuine Eimi fan, disqualifying her from being a grifter.
Yeah I've only looked up a handful of them but all of the ones I did showed some major red flags even just searching through their twitter

I think there's a different level of vetting required for hiring a talent, and hiring someone to make and wear a cute outfit for a few days at a con. I don't think them sperging on their private accounts matters that much, what matters is that a lot of people will be seeing the girls wearing Phase Connect cosplay and that's going to translate to more eyes on the talents, and the talents get to have some fun seeing themselves cosplayed.
I agree, we need more cosplayers that know the vtubers they cosplay, and not just by content, but personally.
Which is why I vote Fishman hire Keeki to cosplay Clara.
Oh yeah right Erina is one of the relatively-few Phase girls who might unironically be gay(and is enough of a freak to consider selfcest...)
