I think I also prefer the less beaten-up look. Visibly tired and dead inside, but not scarred and mutilated. The bandages are fine - I thought of them as more of an accessory than anything.

There's other things I can say about the design but I really want to address the elephant in the room first. Proctor willingly posted this image without immediately demanding Sena to redo it with both designs having big fluffy tails. That or he's going to try to pull a sneaky and ask a big fluffy tail be added at the end.
