Are we seeing a general decline in big corpo viewership because of how "safe" they feel? I've honestly noticed many of the big ones, in Niji at least, have lower CCV compared to a little while ago.

This chart isn’t fully up to date, but both HoloEN and NijiEN had a drop off starting around the second half of 2022.

I wouldn’t necessarily call vtubing a “fad” but it is a form of entertainment and like all forms of entertainment it will have its ups and downs. Maybe over on the EN side we’re on a downswing, or maybe it’s just due to there being so many options these days. Probably a combination of both.

Personal opinion time: I will say that as a fan of vtubers since around 2020 it does feel like some of the buzz around them has died down a bit. Like even though I’m not a big Hololive fan anymore, I will admit that the energy around Hololive and HoloEN back then was something else. They have a huge fanbase now (and HoloJP has done the best in terms of CCV) but it does feel like from an EN perspective a bit of the excitement is gone. Like vtubing is no longer the next big thing, it’s just a big thing.

Anyways, at least for Niji revenue per vtuber remained steady or increased during that period, going off of their IR reports, and I’d imagine it is the same for Hololive. So it may just be that the more general, casual fans who don’t spend much are slightly declining or going elsewhere.

I don't think the EN branches have declined due to people moving onto indies. If you only lurk this place, the farms and /vt/ it may seem that way, but these sites are for contrarians and outsiders who are always looking for new media to consume instead of just sticking to the same shit. I can confidently tell you we don't make up even 10% of these chuuba's audiences, so people here moving onto indies and minor agencies probably didn't have much of an effect.

I think what kukkia said is probably the most likely explanation, Covid ended, the hype died down and a lot of the more casual normie viewers just moved on, the dedicated vtuber fans tend to watch a lot more chuubas and literally oshi anything that moves so they are less reliable as repeat viewers. In my mind the numbers we have now are the ACTUAL numbers overseas, without the hyperinflation due to trendyness. In general both holo and niji are in a weak place atm, holo has stagnated for months with no new gens when they really need them and constant hiatuses from their biggest hitters, niji has been mired in drama and they have oversaturated themselves with endless waves.

It is true that the JP market is larger than ever, and there the big corps are doing even better than in 2020, the EN market just seems to lack that contingent of casual viewers that feeds the massive audiences. It shows that even if vtubing is talked about in all sorts of places it's still a pretty niche thing.

HoloX had a Gartic Phone collab yesterday to commemorate the release of the HoloX manga (I think). For one of Lui's prompts "IrohaS vs KoLuC cooking battle", Iroha and Laplus drew relatively normal pictures (Laplus ran out of time), while Sakamata drew the hags cooking her and Koyori and Lui drew Lui as depressed and ticked off respectively.

Just slap any word that would be likely to be mentioned a-lot at homelands next to kiwifarms and you will find it. For example, search: "Kronii Kiwifarms". For me the vtuber thread comes up.

It seems like (at best) you skimmed through the old thread, and I can't fault you for that its 7k pages after all. So let me tell you the story of the sekrit KF vtuber discord : VToilethumor.
It all started on page 1053 when Null first discovered Vtubers. Unfortunately the first vtuber he found was an open pedophile lusting over a 12?( or 9?) year old girl. Thinking that all vtubers belonged to one corpo ( or to be more precise he thought the software to rig a 3d model belonged to one corpo) and where therefore all affiliated with one another, he projected the image of that one pedo vtubers onto all vtubers and came into the thread asking if everyone was a pedo and why this thread should not be nuked. Given that everyone in the thread was suffering from aspergers & autism, was being intimidated by null and was being overly defensive, nobody managed to convince Judge Null that they were innocent. So on page 1071 he locked the thread. But one heroic kiwi, started talking to him in dms, convincing him that the vtubers thread should be unlocked, and miraculously Null does. On that same page (1071 )a user starts shilling a link to a backup discord server, incase Null ever changed his mind and nuked the thread. That server was Vtoilethumor. Members of the thread would dm other members of the thread an invite to that server until eventually "The VToiletHumor discord is most of the regulars of this thread at this point." It is to note that despite that quote many actually did not join the server because a) discord is fucking gay and b) read further .
The story does not end there because the vtuber thread was once more on thin ice. A user had posted softcore 3d (Loli?) porn in the thread, and our dear leader was once more in the thread telling everyone to stop posting porn or else !
During this some amongst the discord where quite annoyed at null and started complaining on the discord. This time some brave soul leaked the discord and revealed the secret club to the wider KF audience. He also revealed that the discord had 5 channels dedicated to porn, and that most members on the discord only used it to jerk off. The whole fiasco was funny enough for null to feature and mock on his mati stream.
Now that the history lesson is over, yes it is as you think there is a user named Yuni in that discord. And Yes that is her PL account. So open your mouth newbie:

I didn't see it before it was deleted, so I won't comment on whether it was loli or whether Null was having another knee-jerk reaction.
