In the archived examples I gave you can see that they didn't. And even if they did it would appear in the archived example on the replied message, not magically show up at a later time, right? Am I misunderstanding?

The problem is the part of the audience that can't change their energy from streamer to streamer.
As an example, I don't use the same language and energy in Pippas chat as I do as, let's say, in Airis or Amis chats.
That usually happens if the op changed their twitter username after they got the reply so the original username is stuck there,
For example: user A made a tweet and user B replied to said tweet, a few months later user A changed their username to user C. Since the old reply made by user B didn't get deleted it stayed there with them still mentioning user A although the site system recognizes user A as user C hence the double mention in that old reply
This has been one of twitter's very weird site practices for years, also the old username is always unclickable in those mentions tab if op had simply changed her username but looking at that example it's more likely that after op changed their username, someone or themselves quickly claimed the old username again so it's still available as a user on the site
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the differences mainly because it is basically a different style of drawing (normal vs semi-chibi)?
putting the style aside, I can see the similarity in the way they colored+shaded the hair
Might need to dig more art from the two if we wanted to cross-check it further
