I agree, that was a lapse in judgement on my part that I will attempt to not repeat.
Let's assume this happens again, but it isn't me who starts it, but someone else who posts a certain take or other that multiple other users then make the focus of discussion instead of the actual topic. Does that merit a warning for one, all, or something in between? I would like your opinion for future reference.
1) Something happens with Dokibird and Merelytourist rants about Dokicorp, which causes people shitting on him for being retarded again
2) Talent has a brief politisperg moment, so someone goes full politisperg arguing about ending women's suffrage , which causes people shitting on him for being retarded again
Please tell me you can determine the distinct difference between these two moments.

This may be really odd coming from me right now all things considered but I agree. I've said before that the discord is useful in ways that the forum can not be.
For one it is up when the forum may be down so those interested can ask what the problem may be or if the site is down for just them or others as well. Secondly it gives people a direct way to talk to moderators about issues that may not warrant a direct report and you can discuss said issues with multiple moderators and perhaps other users chipping in. Thirdly, it still is a better stream companion compared to a forum, where relevant links and forum posts can be shared whenever Proctor decides to stream. Fourth, but this one is where many of the issues come in, it's better for keeping on top of an ongoing situation like a corpo collapse or something when everybody can just quickly chip in with things they find.
All those things are made better by the instant messaging aspect of discord, you know, the kind of instant messaging I am not allowed to do anymore because someone who is not part of the community decided I wasn't a valuable member of the community he isn't a part of.
For what reason did you bring it to the discord? Surely to continue the discussion no matter how unwise a decision that might have been.

I'm not sure what that has to do with my question. I asked how you would want staff to handle #2 in future. #1 should already be handled with Reports. My opinion is that both should be handled with Reports and the relevant off-topic posts removed from the thread. I would like to know if you think it should be handled differently.
I presented that to see how you understand nuance and how things should be interpreted through a lens of context, which you failed with your explanation.
#1 is still on topic regarding vtubers because people are shitting on Merely in that situation for having a retarded opinion regarding vtubers and the vtuber that was part of the discussion. While it is unfortunate that people dogpile them, as long as the dogpiling still focuses on the topic of vtubers, it doesn't warrant a report. #2 is the situation that requires a report because its someone going completely offtrack and politisperging on a topic that wasn't even part of the initial vtuber politisperg and the topic they're ranting about has nothing to do with vtubers.
Take Clara's initial election sperging on her instagram account. There were politisperg comments regarding abortion and orange man but many of them were about her interpretation or facts she had wrong on the topic, so those comments have the leniancy of being on-topic. As long as the discussion doesn't get heated or too fixated on politics, a report isn't necessarily needed. When it does become heated, that's when a report is needed for a janny to come in and remind people to not turn the thread into A&N.
The later sperging that caused the Phase L thread involved politisperging that veered heavily off-course because her comments were regarding troons being groomers while the politisperg comments were about women's suffrage and how slavery is a natural part of human society. This warrants a report because it is no longer tangentially-related to the vtubers' sperging. If the politisperging in the thread involved discussing the statistics regarding troons being groomers, then it wouldn't necessarily warrant a report as long as it didn't become heated and become the sole topic of discussion. Some politisperging is fine when it is ancillary to the topic at hand, it's when it leaves that cone of focus in regards to the topic and becomes its own beast that it is necessitating a report and moderation.
It was roughly 2:50AM when I asked that question. I currently need a good few seconds thought to interpret the nuance of 5 + 5, you'll hopefully forgive me for leaving the burden of explanation on your shoulders here.
TLDR Consider the context of the discussion and how off-topic the sperging is and whether it is overtaking the actual topic in relation to vtubers.
