Civvie tries out that AI recreation of Quake 2

It is actually really damn impressive. Easily on track for my 2035 prediction of all games being AI generated.

vindicated after a fucking decade.

Kind of an interesting reverse Streisand Effect there. Because Quinn & Crew enlisted help in basically trying to overwhelm the 4chan moderators, they decided to simply shut down the entire discussion, which had the counter-response effect of exploding the previous dynamic and everything breaking containment.

Depends on what an AI generated game entails. It could very easily turn into the the most abhorrent slop machine you've ever seen.

Because of the way generative models work, they're going to spend billions to find out why procedurally generated spaces are incredibly boring and players end up hating. They're also going to disprove most of evolutionary biology in the process, but that's just a humorous side effect.

Of course they'll be slop. Do you see what most games are these days? It's learning from something!

Another franchise dismantled in front of survivor fans for some quick bucks off zoomers and people who don't matter? Can't say I don't know the feeling. :calidrinking:

Have you tried Last Epoch yet? they dropped a big patch recently with more to come.

I have fun with it but it might not tickle the extreme autism necessary to enjoy the numberfagging of PoE.

Last Epoch is really quite good, it's not PoE autism good like you said, but definitely good enough to spend some "turn your brain off and go (compared to PoE at least)" time in.

I just realized, given the time frame for when Bungie would have decided the project was actually a Marathon "revival" was right around the time the LLMs went mainstream. It's entirely possible some generative LLM told them to go with Marathon, with possibly the most on-the-nose output imaginable.

The game that introduced AI Rampancy coming back in 2025 can't not be hilariously ironic.

Any day now the Oblivion Remake/Remaster/Re:Chain of Memories will be shadowdropped thanks to being leaked by literally everyone.

we really aren't getting Elder Scrolls VI until 2030 at least, are we

but perhaps that's a good thing, if it's taking inspiration from Starfield!

I hope the Oblivion remaster is good or that it is absolutely dogshit. Anything in between (IE par for modern Bethesda) would be horribly disappointing.

I want Uriel Septem to dissolve into the floor before he is suppose to be killed breaking the game as Patrick Stewart's unenthusiastic line read gets quieter and quieter as he falls into the world, breaking the game and trapping you in the dungeon until you find a wall that has no physical form allowing you to walk outside bypassing the rest of the level

Anything other than that will have me very put out

At this point, I'd assume it's going to be a new console cycle launch title. And that's the earliest it'll be.

That would be peak Oblivion.

The funny thing is that all it takes for them to buy another decade of delays until ES6 has to come out is just rework the leveling system in Oblivion and fix some of the dungeons. Maybe you could add more than 4 voice actors for every character in the game but I feel that's part of the charm.

I never got this complaint about having so few voice actors for the 360-era Bethesda games, its really charming.

Just play the like 4+ mods that make the game one big map. you do not need to buy skyrim for a 300th time (or oblivion or morrowind)

Tempest Rising is out for the deluxe edition owners, ~40 GB download, early impressions are excellent:

RTS bros, we might actually be back, after nearly offing ourselves with Stormgate

...Perhaps the problem isn't that RTS games are no longer popular, but that current Blizzard devs just don't know how to make them anymore, let alone games in general?
