"Don't EVER bring up Haley Joel Osment in front of me. I have had a rivalry with that guy for... I don't even know, as long as I can remember. I hate him. I HAVE NEVER WANTED TO DESTROY SOMEONE MORE IN MY LIFE THAN HALEY JOEL OSMENT! I HATE HIM!!! I HATE HIM BECAUSE HIS FACE IS TOO SMALL FOR HIS HEAD, AND IT'S NOT NATURAL"Mint Fantome

...I believe it is now time to unban that one newfriend who got shot for rather rudely demanding to make separate threads for each corpo so that his beautiful walled garden didn't have any peasants posting about other corpos or indies.
He quite literally got everything he asked for.
RIP to the king, your sacrifice will not be forgotten(sorry i can't remember your username tho).

Unban him, let him obnoxiously run a victory lap, then ban him again.

PSA for E-book readers:

Amazon is removing the ability to directly download your Kindle books to your computer on the 26th. With everything forced to stay on the cloud, you won't be able to strip your books of DRM using Calibre anymore, and it may come with even worse shit down the line since you won't have control over your library anymore. If you have a Kindle or Amazon e-books you may want to take some time and get your stuff backed up and DRM free before they lock you out.

The fascinating bit of this story is that technology has actually began making it easier to just fucking find a printed paper book and share that thing around, than say, send a file over the internet. As with everything DRM this won't stop the people they want to stop, and will make it for everyone else as nettlesome and vexatious as it can get.

I'm going to be real with you guys. Every time I see a retarded person, it just makes me laugh. I don't mean it in a negative view of retards, it's just something about them that brings me great joy and that's even before they open their mouths and say something retarded like "bwekfast". Not to mention these intellectually challenged individuals are often far more happy than any of us will ever be. None of us will ever again feel as much joy as a retard going to Baskin Robbins. It is no wonder why some believed in medieval times that the mentally handicapped were closer to God.

We Live In A Society where your fucking books will stop working if a corporation says so. It should terrify people how easily everyone's been boiling-frog'd into this situation, but nobody will learn anything because muh shelf space muh convenience.

Agree. Hell even words are edited to erase their meaning. Thrifting old dictionaries/encyclopedias is surprisingly valuable. Buying physical copies of your favorite novels is also A1.

I am glad I was that kid who asked for science books, novels and encyclopedias for his birthday, having an actual paper book collection is gonna end up being a status symbol lol. How fucking sad and terrible, it's like we're back in the middle ages and only the rich can afford to buy and keep books.

Can't wait until everything we see is moderated by AI that avoids wrong-think, everything we do is monitored and logged by surveillance programs, and everything we make is inflated into nothing so some asshole somewhere can watch his number go up. Give it a few generations and our glorious overlords will have finally reclaimed the serf-nobility dynamic, took them long enough!

Retroactive edits are something that's been bothering me for a while, because it doesn't even get discussed in the places that usually care about this kind of thing.

I've heard of a handful of occasions over the last few years where albums on streaming services have retroactively had songs removed as a response to legal issues with samples/the artist disavowing old lyrics/featured guest artists getting cancelled etc., and the implications of that is incredibly concerning. Things being changed on rereleases is nothing new, but at least with physical media or even digital downloads it wouldn't matter much since your original copy would still be how you left it - but that's not how most people are experiencing media now.

The idea of a static piece of art that you will forever be able to appreciate for what it is won't be around for much longer. Allowing activist groups to use social pressure on digital platforms into removing "offensive" elements from their users' ebook/film/TV/music libraries is a huge vulnerability that censors can use as a loophole to get around even the US's First Amendment and shift culture in their favour. It's fucking dire.

Death of the author is an evil book burner philosophy, up there with "all art is political". All tools in the bookburner's arsenal of banning everything that you don't like.

Another fun example; Amazon changed all of the original art on the Wheel of Time e-book covers to be advertisements for their shit Netflix show. It's such predictable evil corporate nonsense, you could probably set your clock to it if you wanted to.

For now. Give it a bit, they're working on that one too. :kroniibitchclap:

Are there any good yarrrr digital libraries out there one could stock up in?
I've more or less quit reading a few years ago due to personal events greatly souring the taste of the hobby, but trying to get back into it now.
