Hime's done a good job organizing this tournament. Looks like a miniature version of Phase Wars, just fighting in Idol Showdown, along with a community tournament with special prizes for best player and for people that pick the top three talents. Sakana didn't miss the chance for doing a merch drop either.

Yeah, the normal game. The team behind the game have done a lot of work to help set this event up, though. The sprites themselves were made by the devs, are animated, and have an attack animation that will be shown during the tournament.
Should be a fun watch. Props to the Idol Showdown team for helping out with this and to Rie and any others involved in setting this up. Not a fighting game player, nor will I even be home when the viewer tournament is happening, so I won't be participating in that, but having a viewer tournament and a talent tournament should be pretty fun. Will definitely be watching.
There's also the placement prediction. It's just like my horse races.
Well, my interest in it ends here lol. I hope everyone involved has fun with it but honestly my main reason to care was seeing how the Holoindie partnership works when the devs naturally change oshis and begin to try to push other corpos or indies into their game. Would they get their game removed? Does cover care about giving free advertisements to their competition? and how much angry seething from all sides would it create? There aren't any written rules about it but I can see it becoming a problem once a unityfag makes a game and gets in, at least we know small references are not a problem.
Since none of that happened I have lost interest. Fighting games are boring as shit.
