Having just watched Suisei's new MV, solid song and good video that's a pretty interesting reflection piece, but I'm a little more interested in how much Cover is getting integrated into the Anime scene itself. I noticed that the animation directors for Cover MVs seem to keep climbing up the staff hierarchies at a few of the Japanese animation companies. For reasons of cost, I doubt we'll ever see anyone at the top of the current market involved, but maybe in a couple of years we might get a Hosada appearance. It'd be kind of absolutely fitting to have Shinkai do one, but I highly doubt that'd ever happen. (I still love his proto-photogrammetry design approach and have since the very beginning.)
Gyaru is a style, yes, but it's basically just a sexual availability signal. Because of the nature of the tattoo taboo in Japan (for obvious reasons), Women there can't do the more normal signaling you see other places. It's a means to an end for attention.
