It's not rose tinted glasses; older game music was better.

The combination of more personal touches - usually one guy, or a small group, working with a small dev studio of four to thirty people - and the limitations at the time requiring the composers to get creative in order to make the music as distinct and memorable as possible resulted in much better music than today, where they're being made for large studios owned by corporations and have access to all manners of instrumentation with no technical limitations.

Limitations are vital to creativity. Only a handful of people in any creative field actually make good use of no limits; most need limits to produce anything worthwhile.

You need boundaries to focus the mind. Without them, the effort put in greatly diminishes.

I also think that older games were forced to have a clearer melody. I can remember most tracks from FFVII extremely well, but anything from the remake that isn't based on the original tracks I have a vague sense of if I remember it at all.

Like visual designs, most music gets way too overdesigned. Too much going on without the experience to control the effect. This is a really weird reference, but in the late 1800s to early 1900s, the big trend was to write Church Hymns. There was somewhere in excess of 100k *published* by 1920. Only a couple hundred were good enough to survive into the post-WW2 era. It was this massive media environment that is almost completely lost to time now. We're simply seeing the same thing play out. Every game needs music, so there's too much music to be made. It's very hard to be memorable because all of the genres have defined instruments & soundscapes.

Anyone played expedition 33 yet I'm hearing a lot of good things and apparently you can parry in it despite it being a turn based game

I haven't played it and only seen a few clips but apparently its basically Super Mario RPG rules where you parry when an enemy attacks but this game makes it so if you do it properly, you can do a counteract during their turn.

The trailer track slapped pretty hard, but there's 22 chapters. But the big thing is they changed up the audio engine. The music isn't quite as forward. Would need to play it on headphones in a couple of weeks (when I have time) to see the difference.

Didn't realize the team they brought in wasn't internal. Interesting.

Some of them slap really hard, but you can kind of feel them pulling back from that full wall of murderous noise motif that Mick had settled into. Which is actually something Mick probably would have done in most tracks as well, being a prequel.

Funny bit, to me, about the first round of the blowup between iD & Mick was even listening to game rips of the Eternal sound track, it would make sense, if there had been any delays, for putting out a full song of each level taking a while. Eternal's system was a huge collection of responsive riffs and not actually a Soundtrack, in the classical sense. It takes a while to wrangle all of that into functional "songs". Thus, if they'd just run out of time and were legally required to get something out, the entire situation made plenty of sense. Sure, would have been nice to have been better, though the fact that Bethesda advertised a soundtrack by Mick Gordon before anyone bothered asking Mick Gordon if he'd put one together is just brilliant corporate disaster making.

Due to how Source 2 development is typically file structures for games are based on projects that need the resources to require something like
>HLVR
>CS2
>Citadel
>dota2beta
>HLX
to be referenced in the backend

CSGO when it was ported to Source 2 for a brief period and L4D3 (which was shelved in 2015) were CSGO_Imported and L4D3 respectively
The tiny bit of HOPIUM here is that suddenly, a file referencing

tf

has appeared in Source 2's backend from deadlock which means there's a big enough project internally that needs Source 2 engine resources to pull that similar to how HLX only appeared fairly recently
or even HLVR (Alyx) had signs of that back in the days of dota2
there's potentially something related to Team Fortress being developed enough internally at Valve to have needed its' own Source 2 structure.

betting on nothing burger and shelved like l4d3.

It's great that Valve is willing to cancel projects that aren't coming together before they waste too many resources.

It's horrible that Valve never seems to finish anything, lol.

Persona Gacha is coming to an English speaking weeb near you:

The bio of the account mentions a steam release, which is a relief.
A livestream with further details is coming in about 15 hours.

Even if all this is true and adds up why the fuck would they self compete with deadlock.

That's really retarded. the sane people are saying they are finally giving us that last update and balance patch considering how first they removed all the bots did some actual work on the game and finally gave us the last comic.

A late but "proper" send off if you will especially with Valve opening the floodgates for TF2C and all the other TF2 based games to come over.

The people who play tf2 and the people who play deadlock have a much smaller overlap than you think. Deadlock is more aligned with Dota 2 than a proper class-based arena shooter like tf2. Saying they're competing with eachother is like saying "why did Valve make cs2 after tf2".

Not what im saying. (also that they are competing for new players regardless)

I'm saying why the fuck would valve make a TF3 when they already have Deadlock. putting overlap aside I don't think they are quite stupid enough to make another mmo shooter while already having one that essentially just came out.

is this really that expensive. the animation is ok but they reuse a lot of it i think there's about 5ish seconds of footage there. Hiring ADO to do a thing despite how popular i don't would cost too much either still a working musician maybe a few thousand???

What do you mean? It's not even out ye-

*googles*

...huh. Didn't realize it came out.

Even with the current mutilated state of the FGC, I was at one point quite interested in this game... then they started adding real life soccer players into it.

I am so sick of games not having their own soul. Please, God, crash the gaming industry with a meteor bigger than that which killed the dinosaurs.

Remember when Tribe Nine released a few months back? No? Surprise End of Service announcement half a year from now!

Lesson of the day: spending money on gacha is the same as burning it, no refunds!

Anyway, looking forward to the release date of P5X!
