I have personal experience with eating disorders. A family that goes to the same church as I do had a daughter with an eating disorder. They were all fat, she was the opposite. Fortunately the community was supportive and she recovered eventually, but for about eight months we watched her waste away bit by bit. Her periods stopped, her face became skeletal, etc. She wore extremely thick clothing to try and cover it up, but when she wore sandals you could see the outline of even the smallest bones in her feet, and her fingers looked like white noodles. Basically, it was a really horrifying thing to witness.
Her case was the result of being the youngest member of a huge family and being used as unpaid labour in their fast food restaurant. Her schedule was dictated 24/7 by her parents and siblings with no room for self-expression. So she rebelled in the only way she could; by starving herself. She recovered fully only when she was able to move out and express some personal independence.
Point being; eating disorders almost always arise from deeply troubled family situations. They are a symptom, not a disease. I can't help but wonder what screwed up Canuk bullshit Clara went through as a child to do this to her.

I think it can be both extremes. There will clearly be victims of abuse and/or neglect who use it as a way to act out, who I am sympathetic toward and genuinely wish well. However, I've seen enough feminist thinkpieces about male objectification, magazine airbrushing, Instagram filters etc. allegedly causing eating disorders to see the other side of it too - women with unpleasant personalities letting their bitterness consume them, while refusing to take any personal accountability.
They absolutely have to be the prettiest and most popular woman in the room at all times, and they feel so threatened by their perceived competition that they will go to extremes to one-up them. That's the kind of person I see in Clara, since it tracks with her tendency to see her competition as "pick-me" girls, as well as her generally vitriolic attitude. With people like that it's a personality problem all the way down; their egos are so sensitive it is genuinely easier for them to endure the physical pains of starvation than it is to think "I'm not as cute as that other girl on /cgl/, and that's okay".

Money is made up in the same way words are made up. Less equivalent but similarly, laws and the calendar are also made up. Clara please. This isn't even an educated enough take to be mad at.
We still do take care of the sick and elderly it just costs more now. Used to be they withered away for free in a bed while you maybe fed them and died quickly. Now you gotta pay for tubes, machines, and people educated in using those that keep them alive in better comfort and for longer. But the logistics behind those machines mean it costs an insane amount to keep them around, so the society has to actually work to make it happen.

And while I'm at it, do you know who took care of the elderly and sick before wealth existed, Kelsey? That elderly or sick person's family did. I wouldn't be clamouring for that to make a comeback too hard, Kelsey, you wouldn't be able to be in Japan living your idol weeaboo life if we were still living with those rules.
