Need to get to Mafia 2 some time. First one was good, not great. Heard the third is crap.
Bioshock, man... turbulent personal history for me. When Bioshock was in development, I was so excited, as it was to be a spiritual successor to System Shock, and was being designed with that in mind. Then I distinctly recall an article some halfway through development that someone in management, at either Take 2 or Irrational, declaring they didn't want to make an FPS-RPG (like System Shock was), but instead a "blockbuster."
Game comes out, and, while I enjoyed it quite a bit, I was massively disappointed. Slick game, but a great example of the streamlining and dumbing down of genres from that era.
I only played Bioshock 2 once and I recall liking it, but don't remember much about it. Maybe I should revisit.
Bioshock Infinite, however, is my most hated game of all time. Every single element is a letdown, especially from how it was being built up in devblogs. It's then super pretentious, with a god damn Disney musical scene right in the middle of the fucking game. The pinnacle is in the end credits, where Levine(?) and someone else (VA for Elizabeth?) are sitting down and she's playing some sad sap indie guitar shit. Jesus fucking Christ, how fucking pretentious can you get?
Bizarre this came from the same man as my most favorite game of all time, System Shock 2.
