Idk if it'll help her but I'd just simplify it, move the decimal back one and divide. so 12.2/3 but she'd still find a way to push that solve to 10 mins again
People are shit at math probably because of the memorization method you described there. Don't memorize shit you can easily derive and learn the mechanics behind.

It creates bad habits, just teach kids the mechanics in 2nd grade. Seriously, everyone I ever met who was absolute shit at math was trying to brute force memorize math or formulas instead of being able to derive the equation from the problem.
Just once when they tell these fun facts about the fictional children I want them to just surprise everyone with some out of pocket fact like "my dad went to high school with the Zodiac Killer!"
