Japan has a lot of rules but they're all simple rules like use this door instead of that door. The USA has very few rules, but the ones it has are you're expected to experience diverse experiences at your own tax expense.

The other big thing is Japan has way less regulation on making and building things, America is a nightmare of red tape depending on the state.

It has its ups and downs but it's still the best damn place on Earth you could live.

Anybody would love another country more than their own if it was a vacation. In Japan she gets to go hang with friends for a week or two and have tons of fun, do lots of new things, when she doesn't do that here. You won't see the downsides until you stay there a while. Especially, if there were to be an international war or depression of some sort, America is probably about the safest place you're gonna get if shit hits the fan, just saying. Certainly not Japan, right on China's ass, which is why I'd love to have a place to live there but not be a permanent resident.

I have the same feeling she does over Japan, but when you think about it what she's saying--I mean, listen to it. It's all "fun" stuff or things you get away with as a tourist. None of the day-to-day. None of the social problems. Just "I like to visit konbinis and animal cafes." Valid, but inaccurate.

She wants the purpose of the system to actually follow what the rules outline and be even handed, with a society that wants to follow the rules and the rules not to be fucking gay as shit. Yup, it went from coming back into that within a week, I remember posting about the JP visa stuff changing to bring in a bunch of minorities to try and fix their declining birthrate, also get fucked @Hff201

Kinda but she does have a more independent job that isn't rigid like being an English teacher or office worker. It's isolating and lonely all the same unless you put in a TON of work. The absence of a safety net + language barrier is bad. I can say with certainty she'd hate living there. Visiting with money is EPIC. But even extended visits are different than living there.

Yeah Dogen makes a point that he was enjoying Japan as a teenager studying abroad in Uni up until his money dried up and his qt-japanese gf was like "dude I'm a Tokyo University student and my peers are getting job offers from [big name american corpo], wtf do you bring to the table here?" The reality check will always be when the money dries up and you're not a tourist anymore.
