There is a reason why people in Japan wear face masks during cold season, Pippa! Good news is, they have medicine/comfort food down to a science due to this, so take advantage of that as you can (and make fishman foot the bill)
The more someone drinks, the worse it gets, and I'm not talking about just one night. If she continues to travel and drink regularly even if she abstains from doing so on the trip, she's still more than likely to get sick.

This is slonder.
I think concern is well-founded here. She seems to be drinking as a coping mechanism, doing so in large quantities, and talking prospectively about continuing to do so.
Sucks but understandable.
Hope she gets better and it's nothing too serious. Let it serve as a reminder, don't get drunk in a new place or place you haven't been to in a long time, then decide to explore said new place.
