Nemlei isn't a writer who shies away from honest portrayals of dysfunctional relationships and people in her works, even in toxic abusive relationships there are good days that make dealing with someone terrible for you feel "worth it", and there's already some pretty terrible endings in the game for the Graves siblings where their worst traits destroy each other. Physically or just spiritually. There will be a "happy end" at some point though, since challenging and overcoming stuff like that is also something she likes to do.
Honestly I kinda wish she'd just release the whole thing when it was finished rather than piecemeal. It's good but I get the impression it's ballooned out of proportion with its success and how it's planned to branch. We're looking at something like 2-3 more years to finish it to write the Burial branch and then a combined ending where they join or two leading on from the cliffhangers in Decay and presumably Burial.
