This one in particular feels like it would be hard to change unless they completely gutted the more sandbox aspects of 5 and admittedly thats part of what made it feel really fun. Just being able to fuck around collecting people and finishing side ops on the maps wouldent work as well I feel if they were more condense.
I feel like it wouldn't have been that hard, seeing as you already have the oil refinery from the start of Africa, and OKB Zero both of which are great individual areas of the larger world, but a lot of the other bases were just shit. The first village in Afghanistan and the place you pull Miller out of at the start of the game are also OK. Code Talker's Mansion is also good if you manage to fuck up and guards actually enter the fucking building, but otherwise as soon as you manage to get into the house you're basically in the clear and it all goes to waste.
Then you start thinking about the main missions, and a lot of them stick in my mind for being set in absolutely terrible areas. The one where you have to set some shit up and then take out three tanks? Mission is set up so the tanks will roll through a village and make your job hard if you're not fast enough. Except, fast enough is glacially slow so you can always catch the tanks outside of the village and just no-effort kidnap them in the middle of the road, because they have no infantry backup. The skulls boss fight is in the middle of an empty airfield, the mission where you kidnap Huey and face off against Sahelanthropus has like one choke point which you get through with no effort, then you spend 5 minutes crawling across a mostly empty airfield. The mines segment of Africa where you rescue the little niggos is also pretty bad. And the absolute shittiest mission in the whole game, rescuing the Viscount and interpreter mission, where it's literally like 4 wooden sheds in the middle of an empty fucking field, with about 20 dudes randomly spread between this gigantic fucking area.
It's like they had good map and encounter designers, they just had to pad for runtime because Kojima went over budget and deadline four times, and Konami was retarded enough to demand they make a working PS3 version.
It's also only difficult if you choose to make it difficult assuming she doesn't get one guyed into a human cargo container she could finish it fairly easily.
